Mechanical Engineer Needed – Miniature Push-to-Lock & Side-Button Ejection Mechanism for Modular Jewelry Anyone

About the job

We are developing a premium modular jewelry system and are looking for a mechanical engineer to design a compact locking mechanism for an interchangeable Core.
The Core is a regular octagonal component, approx. 10–12 mm, inserted from the top into a small metal housing.
Required function:
Insert → Press → Click → Locked
The Core should automatically lock securely when pressed into the housing.
To remove it:
Press side button → Unlock → Core lifts ~1 mm → Remove
A small spring or similar solution should lift the Core approximately 0.8–1.2 mm after release so it can be removed by hand.
Key requirements:
Side-operated push button
No rotation and no rear access
Very thin and compact
Minimum number of moving parts
No rattling or accidental release
Durable for repeated use, movement and sports
Eventually manufacturable in stainless steel or titanium
We are not looking for someone to simply copy our reference sketches. We want an engineer to develop the simplest and most reliable mechanical solution.
Phase 1: Propose 2–3 mechanism concepts and recommend the best solution based on simplicity, thickness, reliability and manufacturability.
Phase 2: Functional CAD assembly, individual parts, STEP files, tolerances and prototype-ready design.
Experience with miniature mechanisms, spring-loaded latches, push buttons, snap locks, eject mechanisms, watches or precision engineering is highly preferred.
