About the job
We are a small Florida/Texas engineering firm looking for an experienced piping drafter to build and maintain 3D piping models and drawing packages for small bulk fuel plants (not mega-terminals). Work is remote. You will work directly with the Principal Engineer — not through layers of project managers.
What this is
Typical sites: small bulk plants, cardlock / wholesale fuel, modest tank farms, loading racks, pump pads, and manifold style work. Emphasis on small-diameter process and product piping (generally ½"–6", occasional larger headers), tight equipment spacing, and constructible routing — not long-distance pipeline or refinery-scale racks.
You will take, plot plans, equipment data, and markups and produce a clean, intelligent 3D model plus extractable drawings. The Principal will redline in PDF/CAD, we will talk through conflicts, and you will iterate until the package is ready to issue.
This is a working relationship, not a one-shot gig. If the first package goes well, there is ongoing work.
Software (must have one; both is better)
• AutoCAD Plant 3D or we can discuss others.
• AutoCAD 2D for cleanup / details
• Ability to extract isometrics with BOM and a simple MTO
Tell us which platform you live in. We will match the model to what we can maintain in-house.
Deliverables (typical package)
• Intelligent 3D piping model
• Piping plans / sections / GAs
• Isometrics with BOM
• Bonus points if you can take some of the ones we have done in the past and matc...

Tell us which platform you live in. We will match the model to what we can maintain in-house.
Deliverables (typical package)
• Intelligent 3D piping model
• Piping plans / sections / GAs
• Isometrics with BOM
• Bonus points if you can take some of the ones we have done in the past and match them in cad for permitting.
Start small: one system or one area, then expand.
How we will work
• Principal issues P&IDs, plot, photos, and a short written scope
• You model a first pass
• Principal redlines (routing, fittings, supports, clearances, constructability)
• Short call or markup review as needed
• You revise and re-issue
• Repeat until it is clean enough to stamp/issue
You must be comfortable with iteration. First-pass “done” that ignores redlines will not work. Clear English, same-day or next-day replies during US Eastern business hours preferred.
What good looks like
• You have done tank farm / bulk plant / loading rack / small process plant piping, not only HVAC or architectural CAD
• You understand small-bore routing: valves accessible, no buried flanges in the dirt, supports that a fabricator can actually build
• You can work from incomplete field info and flag gaps instead of inventing pipe
• Portfolio includes extracted isos with BOM, not only rendered pictures
To apply, send
1. Software you will use and version
2. 2–3 samples: bulk plant, tank farm, rack, or small process piping (iso + plan or model view)
3. Hourly rate and a ballpark for a small first package (e.g. one product system + pump pad, ~X isos)
4. Typical turnaround for a first-pass model after receiving P&IDs
5. Time zone and hours of overlap with US Eastern
Do not send a generic “I can do any 3D piping” message with no samples.
Start
Paid test / first package: one small area (pump pad + short one product loading line). If that iterates cleanly, we keep going.
