Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Prefab Wall Designer to support the design and production of prefabricated wood wall panels for multifamily construction projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for converting architectural, structural, and engineered drawings into accurate, production-ready wall panel layouts and shop drawings for use in our prefab facility and by our field framing crews.
This position requires a strong understanding of wood-frame construction, multifamily framing, structural requirements, panelization, material optimization, and constructability.
Key Responsibilities
Produce complete prefab wall panel layouts from architectural and structural drawings.
Design wall panels using MiTek software or comparable wall panel design software.
Develop accurate production/shop drawings for exterior, interior, corridor, party, shear, and load-bearing walls.
Break building layouts into practical panel sizes based on manufacturing, shipping, crane/telehandler handling, and field installation requirements.
Incorporate:
Window and door rough openings
Headers and built-up beams
Posts and point loads
Shear walls
Hold-down locations
Blocking and backing
Structural sheathing
Fire-rated assemblies
Party/demising walls
Corridor walls
Tall walls and special framing conditions

Produce accurate material takeoffs, cut lists, panel lists, and production information.
Optimize panel layouts to minimize lumber and sheathing waste while maintaining structural and architectural requirements.
Coordinate with prefab shop supervisors and field framing crews to ensure panels are practical to manufacture, ship, stand, and install.
Revise panel drawings efficiently as architectural or structural changes are issued.
Maintain drawing revision control and ensure the shop is working from the latest approved information.
Assist with sequencing wall packages based on building, floor, gridline, unit, and installation sequence.
Required Experience
Previous experience designing prefabricated wood wall panels.
Strong understanding of multifamily wood-frame construction.
Experience with MiTek wall panel software is preferred; experience with comparable panelization/design software will be considered.
Ability to interpret architectural, structural, truss, floor joist, and shop drawings.
Strong knowledge of wood framing practices, including dimensional lumber, engineered wood products, sheathing, headers, beams, posts, hold-downs, and shear wall construction.
Ability to recognize potential conflicts between architectural design, structural requirements, and actual field construction.
Understanding of how prefab wall panels are manufactured, transported, staged, and erected onsite.
Strong attention to dimensions, elevations, openings, wall heights, and drawing revisions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:
MiTek wall panel design/panelization software
AutoCAD
Revit
Simpson Strong-Tie hardware and hold-down systems
Engineered wood products including LVL, LSL and PSL
Canadian wood-frame construction
Alberta Building Code / National Building Code requirements
4–6 storey multifamily wood-frame construction
Large-scale apartment, condominium, hotel, or townhouse projects
Automated or semi-automated wall panel production facilities
