Description:
Looking for a 3D printing design for a universal buckle adapter that will connect to a variety of existing side release buckles that you might find on backpacks, luggage or pet collars. The universal buckle adapter will connect to the male end on one side and the female end on the other side of the existing buckle. The design will be for a medium sized buckle that attaches to a 1" wide strap.
Wants:
Adapter must be 1.5 inches wide or less; must be a universal adapter (the more buckles it works with the better); the universal adapter has to connect securely regardless of the type of buckle it is connecting.

Design to be 3D. The adapter should not infringe on an existing patent.
Don't Wants:
I'm not looking for an adapter design that replicates a single buckle style. The adapter must be able to connect a variety of medium sized buckles.
Software:
  1. Solid Works CAD or similar
Additional Information
The attached photos include 5 pictures of the various types of buckles the universal adapter must work with. The other two pictures are drawings of the concept of a modular adapter.

Thanks again to everyone for submitting all of your ideas for the design. And congratulations to Pablo for submitting the winning idea! Pablo took a different approach and solved for the problem of attaching a tracking device to a dog collar in a discreet and secure way that is simple and easy to use.

We really enjoyed working with all of you and we had a great experience with CAD Crowd.

Thanks,
Paprika

Paprika,

I am glad you liked my submission. The plan I had in mind for my design is a loop back strap that would be threaded thru the designed buckle similar to what is found on most dog collars that I have seen.

Decker

Hi Saket -
We are looking for a solution where the device does not hang off the collar or stick out from the collar. It needs to be discreet (not obvious) and secure. The attachment (Collar on Sam) is an example of discreet and secure, but we are open to any designs that accomplish these goals.

Thanks,
Paprika

Hi Paprika
Please elaborate more regarding tracking device.Do you want it to be incorporated in the same adapter we are designing or you want a separate design for the tracker which will fit many collars.

HI Paprika, I got the dimensions provided. But there are some other dimensions that may come handy for optimization. No problem, we can work with the provided dimensions.

Hi KP HARISANKAR -
The dimensions of the clips are listed in the comments below. There is an attachment (IMG 1038) that shows several different buckles.

HI Paprika, if you can get samples of all buckles of different dimensions it can be very useful for accurate designs. Place all of them on a flat surface and just take a photo of the top view, and mention the dimension of any one edge. Then all of us will be able to get all dimensions of the buckles.

Hello designers -
We have been getting a lot of creative and unique designs for the universal buckle adapter. Please keep sending us your designs. Be thinking about how we can attach a tracking device to a dog collar without having it hang off or around the collar. The tracking device itself will be about 1.25" x 1.25" x 0.375".

Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for your comment USLANDS2CAD. You make a good point and we definitely want a solution that works for as many collar sizes as possible (not just 1" collars). We are starting out focused on the 1" size, but will welcome any designs that solve for more sizes.

Paprika, I have reviewed your request for a product buckle that is interchangeable with a wide range of existing buckles available on the market. I have also reviewed some of the commentary. One of the comments in the comment section that stands out is Adam's comment about the range of size of buckle (3/4" - 2"). You may want to consider the range of size of buckle to further make the buckle adapter interchangeable with the many collars available rather than limiting it to 1" collars. With that, you'll be able to market your product to a wider audience. It's just a suggestion. Your thoughts are welcome.

We have uploaded two additional pictures that will further explain what we are trying to accomplish. One of the attachments, "Collar on Sam", shows how the device will connect to an existing pet collar. The other attachment, "Device", shows a depiction of the device itself with a male and female adapter on each side. The challenge we have is that there are many different types of collars with many different types of buckles to connect to. Hope this helps!

Hello everyone! If you haven't already, clear remember to provide an STL file for us so we can print and verify your results meet our requirements. If you can indicate in the file name which file is STL it would be great as not all entries above list the file extension or call out the STL file by name. We are excited to see the submissions so far!

Another thing to think about with the design of the male buckle adapter is that the middle guide post, which creates stability and ensures a tight fit, can't be too long so that it prevents it from fitting completely into the female end of a variety of clips. Consider either reducing the length/size of the middle guide post or eliminating it completely if the buckle will maintain its stability.

Drink Table Design
Hello, I bought a large 3D printer (optimusP1 60 x 60 x 110 cm) and Mosaic Palette 2S for multi-materials. I want to design a unique table where I can utilize the size of the printer to build a drink table with dimensions 15 x 25 x 90 with a flat top or even if I add a marble slab as a top while having the rest of the table composed of Lattice Structure that shows the beauty of 3D printing. As for the multi-materials, I will mainly utilize it for making the support structures tips as a dissolvable filament to allow us to have complex shapes and the support structure can be removed easily. The filaments will be used are: 1- StoneFil 1.75: https://www.formfutura.com/shop/product/stonefil-2842?category=465&itm_source=site&itm_medium=header&itm_campaign=menu-filaments&itm_content=desktop 2- Ultimaker PVA (water-soluble support material): https://ultimaker.com/materials/pva Equipment used: 1- https://www.mosaicmfg.com/products/palette-2s 2- https://www.optimus3dp.com/ Bidder shall provide g-code and complete printing instructions if necessary.

La'al Ratty Locomotive & Coaches Creation Contest of Funitude!! :D
I basically need No. 7 River Esk. It's a 2-8-2 with 8-wheeled tender in lnwr blackberry livery with black, off-white, & red lining. The other stuff can be found in the pictures. The Non Open Coaches are blue & white, the open coaches are maroon. I'd like them ALL to be ready to run *that means I need the chassis motor built in, built in the locomotive itself of course*. The couplings are 3-link couplings. The coaches are bogie used. I can add the bogies, I just need it to where they just need to be screwed into the floor of the coaches :). Also, the engine and coaches need brake pipes on both ends of both the engine & coaches. Also, there are 10 coaches, only 3 are open coaches, the rest are the regular ones.
