Yes I agree with you Adam. Prototyping in this dimensions is expensive but fast, that cost money

The 3D I&;m guessing is for prototyping and adjusting to final model. like all prototyping should be.
Either way I agree with you, we need to be careful with the design in order to make both "nice to the eye" but also manufacturable and still profitable.

That is the only place industrial design is not alowed to go, that differ it from art, we are not allowed to do ugly undoable products.

But I&;m sure the client is looking now for look and feel and then will clean the corners towards manufacturability. But hey I feel you and understand why you are defending this plastic, it is your thing.

Best of luck, Pablo

I just used Protolabs automated quote system to get a price for a 3d printed SLA.

Just ONE half of the Gnome is $1700 ($3400 for the two sides) and I had to scale it down below 8" because their machine won&;t print any bigger than that.

Really ? Do you know how much that&;s going to cost Pablo ?
Those two halves are $1500 a shot to 3d print and then the sun is going to burn them down to the ground from no UV stabilizer.

if you go with texture, you will need a minimum of 3 degrees draft for MT11030, typical of outdoor plastic parts.

What about the wifi antenna. and other features of this new one. Would you like me to keep them or change back to previous features the one you liked?
Or are you just interested in look and feel righ now?

buyer, i would recommend that whomever you decide to pick in this contest, that they show you the model split in half, shelled with a minimum .100" wall thickness, and shows a draft analysis of a minimum 2 degrees for this size part. That&;s even more critical than your components fitting, because if you can&;t mold it, you won&;t even be able to scale it up or down, the whole thing will have to be remodeled. Good luck.

Hi Gardener.

I can modify everything you want but without even 1 start I wouldn&;t feel confident loosing the remaining time tweaking this fellow appearance.
I think I will be running in circles. I will try to make a simple fellow that I think tht is what you are looking for the look and feel Zerroug nail in the beginning and the rest just start to mimic like crazy.

I&;m a little divided between this design of yours and the one with the LCD moved.

At this point, I might like this one a little more.

I have the same comment here as for your other design--see if you can find a way to add some personality by giving the character a slight twist--turning his head (and whole body) just slightly to one side. Perhaps the side with the raised arm should be slightly higher--as if he were really excited to be waving at someone far away. Imagine how your body would look if you were waving with excitement: your shoulder would be raised a little, body turned facing a little, maybe that foot would be slightly bent towards your toes. Does that make sense?

Thanks for moving the LCD down to the chest. Can we work on the eyes a little? Perhaps something closer to numbers 42, 67, etc.

Can we make some definition between the head and shoulders giving him a very slight neck perhaps?

I&;m not in love with the bottom of his chin. I&;m not sure why. Perhaps definition between the shoulders and head would help? Either narrowing his body, or broadening his head.

Check out the dimensional twist that 78 has offered. This is a SUPER way to add personality to the gnome. It turns what would be just a statue into a character with personality. Consider how your design might be able to have some twist in his body--even just slightly. Or a slightly turned head, or tilted to one side.

Can we do something different with the top of this guys head to make it a little less "sparta"? Perhaps try applying a traditional gnome hat?

Can we try without the mustache and chin beard? They&;re looking a lot like colonel sanders. :)

Maybe downsize the eyes a little. Is the head able to be scaled down a little, too? Or does it need to be that big for the cavity requirements?

Thanks for the update. I&;m not going for the large head or LCD in hat. For the LCD to fit there, the proportions would need to be very wide.

This guy is looking more menacing than whimsical. Any way to make him seem a little more friendly?

Thanks for this design, but it isn&;t nearly as finished as the others we&;ve received. I&;m not understanding the shape or texture of the hat. The face is reminding me of one of the Thomas trains. And I&;m not getting "gnome" or "robot" from the body.
