Control-box with display, fitting on a DIN rail

Contest Ended, Winner(s) have been selected.
Description:
This is about a first product draft, which shall later be turned into a production ready design.

I need an enclosure for a custom made electronic part. The rough form-factor should be similar to a navigation system (see attached files) with a display in front and parallel enclosure boundaries, slightly rounded edges.
The display is 4.3 inches wide (see technical details attached) and should be included in the rendering. The enclosure should be 4 cm deep.
As a bonus, the display shows attached bar diagram.

At the back, there should be the possibility for a DIN rail mount, top hat rail EN 50022 – 35 × 7.5
but also for direct wall mount using screws or mounting to a bar with cable ties.

At the front left side of the enclosure, I need a C14 inlet to add a power cable and a Schuko socket: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuko or CEE 7/3 socket. See attached figure of the design.

The material should be dark grey with a bit reflective surface. Please add our logo to the upper left corner of the front, below the display. If it fits optically, it could glow a bit in green.
Wants:
I will rate the quality of the work/experience of the designer and the optical appearance. If I am happy, there will be a second competition about the technical details, and finally the enclosure will be produced in a sample.

The designer should have experience in designing consumer products and especially produce a solid mechanical fitting to the DIN rail. I will especially look at this feature.
It would be bonus to model the DIN rail as well for illustration.
Don't Wants:
Fancy design ideas are not needed. The product should look solid and handy.
Company Logo:
Yes
Software:
  1. AutoCAD
  2. SolidWorks

#35 Control box by Sandi Babič
Based on the information you've given this is my input. The depth is about 4cm. There are 2 brackets screwed on the bottom side of the box. If you want to put it on the DIN rail, you hook it on the bottom side, push up and hook on the top side, so it stands firm on the rail. If you want to dismount it, push up and unhook the upper side. As the top is loose, you can easily just take it away.
There are no additional holes on the housing to warrant a IP 54 protection (regarding the Schuko female plug, a cover would probably come in handy when there is no male plug inserted to maintain the protection).
For the pipe mounting I've made this sheet steel bracket which can be attached to the box instead of the DIN rail brackets.
Since you've mentioned you want something more fancy looking (uneven surface on the front panel), I've done some free surface modelling. Hope you like it. The cost for the tools will increase a bit, but it shouldn't be too hard on the budget. Especially if you want some bigger series.
The brackets for the DIN rail are standard, the female plugs also (Schuko and IEC 14), but the brackets for pipes are custom made. With proper large enough numbers, it should go seriously bellow 1$ I believe.

Hi
I do some alters in model. Grooves get blind, but i don't remove all of them because of more beautification.
also i prepare an image in actual scale for you to have a better imagination about dimensions of enclosure.
I do some changes is dimension but i found it's better to maintain previous dimension because of below reasons:
1. if we move DIN rail to a higher level, it caused weakness of beneath part and it raise the risk of damage to control box when you want to plug in something there.
2. Most of parts in this design are symmetric and if we want to reduce size more than this, the symmetry of all product will eliminate. in result you will see, Logo is an appropriate location and totally it caused lower beauty.
These are my suggestions but you are decision maker and if you prefer, i will change it with pleasure.

I have taken your recommendations and applied them to the design. I sourced a mounting clip that can be snapped/unsnapped from the front. I have attached spec sheet for that. I also added mounting tabs on the sides that accommodate the clip as well as wall mounting. The case will never have to be opened for mounting period. I beefed up the tabs with ribs as well. They do not stick out too far as to interfere with other components on the rail.
Once again, I can tweak anything you need. Close up shot of the clip mounted is also attached

Designing Features:
1.Adding Grooves for Air circulation inside enclosure.
2.New Design for enclosure to mounting on Rails - You Only need to pull up the clamp for release.
3.Reinforcing of wall mount screw holes to acquire more strength against extra forces.
This design able you to mount several enclosure which stick together without any extra distance with each other. In order to assembling control box, you only need to placing enclosure on its location and push the clamp for fixing and you don't need to pull it all over the rail or even opening screws. it's very simple and user-friend and Stylish as well. If you have any comment regard designing i will be happy for help and cooperation.

This design features a built in Din Rail channel with (4) optional mounting holes for wall mount. The outlets are snap-in versions that are recess fora nice flush look. I could not fit the logo in the top left-hand corner, but thought a lit up version of it above the screen would look great. I can tweak the design as you see fit.

#12 Version 1 by handsketcher
Hi,
Here I used standard components for schuko socket and C14 as well as some standard parts for DIN mount.
I'll make another concept with flushed parts for electrical sockets.
In this design, I moved logo to display bezel. Please let me know is this acceptable or not. Because I found this location give more contrast to the logo than on grey surface.
Two types of DIN mounts and one pole mount idea added. Wall mount is included into the back cover of the box. This wall mount may not comply with IP 54. This is due to its molding tool structure. I'll add some more ideas as well.
If you are happy with the concept so far, I'd like to make necessary modification to meet the expectations.

#41 Enclosure and DIN mount design by Tony S Kureekkal
I focused on ease of mounting. I think using a "Snap Fit Pin" design is ideal for mounting the enclosure. The mounts need to be slid in, following which the box can simply be pushed onto the pins. Removing the enclosure from the mounts is also easy and only requires the user to pinch on the snap fit pins. There are far better visually appealing designs uploaded by others. I was hoping that you would find this installation design appealing. I saw the project just today and I can make a much better visually appealing design with a little more time.

Yes, I am sorry for this. The winning design is not the best from the DIN rail fitting, but it is good enough and compensates this with other convincing strengths.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. The texture is carbon fibre, the most cost effective way to reproduce it is a vinyl wrap which is a cheap and durable coating. It could also be done with a process called hydrodipping.

Almost haft-time with the contest, and there are some awesome models here already...
I am quite happy and as Aminegn suggested, I added another 100 $ for the second & third place to the contest to honor that.

If I can have a wish for that, it would be from the 5 nominated designs to be a touch more interesting/some more nuances added to the designs. The logo can basically be everywhere and some of the designs could be a bit less bulky.

Hi Mr Christoph;
thank you for your comment.
Answer to question 1 :Yes it is necessary, but one can modify the design with the add a form that fit on the support.
Answer to question 2 : This is the easiest solution, just you can push up against the metal spring to release the Control-box

I like this one. Especially the mounting to the DIN rail. I have two questions:
- is it a custom made metal part that is needed for the mounting, I mean the spring-like part in grey?
- is it intended that one can take the box on and off without any tools, by pushing it upwards against the metal spring?

Thank you
