Like many CAD projects, this piece demonstrates a number of different skills. First, its a clever and unique product design. Second, it’s multi-part CAD design, showing off some impressive 3D modeling skills. And third, the rendering is beautiful, which is a whole other skill unto itself. So in one nice image, we’ve already got a range of skills at play. Plus, look how darn cute this little bike trailer is! It’s even got a flag!
2. Chair & Table Furniture Design by Michael Dimou
Furniture design probably isn’t the first thing you think of when you think of cutting-edge CAD technology, but why not? If it can be imagined, then it can be designed in CAD! This interesting table and chairs set is a good example, combining classic materials (wood) with contemporary materials in a highly modern, colorful design. The ability of a talented designer to create interesting objects for totally different fields is really what separates the wheat from the chaff, and this is definitely true for this particular designer.
3. City Hall Architectural Design by Andreea Cbz
The projects that CAD designers work on range in scale, from the smallest components to entire buildings! This awesome project shows off a combination of both interior design and architecture for a snazzy contemporary city hall (which seems to be complete with a bar — nice!). City halls are often displays of very interesting architecture, and this design fits the mold.
4. Fever Espresso Machine Product Design by Creative Paul
Have we mentioned that CAD designers are pretty creative? Don’t you just want to adopt this espresso machine? Don’t you just want to turn that implied frown upside down? The 3D modeling and the rendering are all very good, but the first thing that strikes you about this design is the inventiveness of the design itself!
5. PCB Design by Mart
Let’s take a break from gorgeous rendering and have a look at a totally different application of CAD skills. PCB design and layout makes extensive use of CAD to plan and produce the PCBs that are the basis for almost all modern electronics. This is also great for clients who might not be electrical engineers, since it’s a lot easier to understand a 3D model of a circuit board than to read a schematic!
6. AutoCAD Projects CAD Drafting & Design by Bogdan Comaniciu
Speaking of schematics, CAD software like AutoCAD, used to create this example, is tremendously useful when it comes to producing accurate and reliable technical drawings and drafting documents. Just like the one shown here from a talented drafter! CAD drafting has many advantages over traditional hand drawings, including ease of storage, transfer, reproduction, and editing.
7. Game Props UV Mapping 3D Modeling Design by Bahirmary Ramos B
Of course, CAD is hugely important to video game design! These low-poly meshes are optimized for use in video games where real-time rendering requires the use of 3D models with fewer polygons than you might find in, say, an animated film. But video game players still want them to look good! Designing objects that look great but don’t kill the player’s frame rate is a pretty specific kind of CAD skill.
