Worm Screw Design & CNC Lathe Machining (Custom Profile)

This project showcases the high-precision 3D modeling and manufacturing preparation of a heavy-duty worm screw featuring a custom thread profile, designed for industrial transmission systems. Unlike standard commercial threads, this worm gear required a specialized geometry to optimize contact area, reduce friction, and ensure smooth power transmission under high torque loads. Key Technical Achievements & Deliverables: Parametric 3D Modeling: Developed the complete screw geometry using advanced CAD software, ensuring strict dimensional tolerances and perfect pitch continuity. Custom Thread Profile Engineering: Designed the precise custom profile of the thread tooth (filete) using wireframe geometry to meet strict mechanical specifications before generating the 3D solid. Manufacturing & CNC Optimization: Planned the machining strategy for a 2-axis/3-axis CNC Lathe. This included defining the multi-pass threading cycles, custom tool nose radius compensation, and calculating the proper lead angle to avoid tool interference during heavy cutting. Production-Ready Deliverables: Delivered complete technical drawings with precise tolerances, clear surface finish requirements, and optimized high-resolution export files for direct integration into CAM software (such as Mastercam) for toolpath generation.
