Universal Access Toilet cabin - Rolling Stock

Developed a new Universal Access Toilet (UAT) cabin for train upgrades in the UK. I worked with PriestmanGoode on the design concept by managing design elements needed to comply with legislation, and providing input into practical and compliance capable construction materials. Once the design was agreed upon I worked with a small team to develop the whole of the cabin using sheet metal, composites, and aluminium castings. I designed all of the electrical and control system to meet Rail Standards, PRM requirements and legislation, as well as passenger comfort and train maintenance needs. I developed the test plan and carried out the testing to ensure compliance with EMC, Shock & Vibration and Environmental standards. I also carried out cycle testing on the door mechanism and control system in order to identify any weaknesses and determine the maintenance regime. I managed the simulated tests carried out on the cabin structure to ensure compliance with GM/RT 2100. I managed the EN 45545 compliance matrix and liased with suppliers and third part test house to carry out the fire, smoke and toxicity testing of necessary components. The product was deemed to meet all UK and EU Rail specifications. The company selling the product won contracts to install the cabins into Northern Train, West Midlands Trains and Transport for Wales rolling stock.
