From Physical Scan to Precision CAD: Precision- Reverse Engineered Ultrasound Probe Housing with Integrated Gel Delivery I recently completed a project focused on custom medical device accessories. Using 3D scanning technology, I captured the organic geometry of a standard ultrasound probe to Create a custom-fit cover for an ultrasound probe that incorporates a dedicated channel for sonographic gel delivery. The Process: 3D Scanning: Captured high-resolution point cloud data of the original probe. Reverse Engineering: Processed the scan data into a clean, workable CAD model. Product Design: Developed the custom-fit protective ergonomic cover (teal) & seamless integration with the original device (white) with an integrated 5mm through-hole (red). This port allows for a tube to feed sonographic gel directly to the transducer face, streamlining the scanning process for the operator. This project highlights the power of reverse engineering in creating aftermarket solutions and bespoke medical components.
