Roofing Tile Quality Vision Inspection Belt Conveyor System
A year ago, I designed and built this Semi-Automatic Roofing Tile Quality Vision Inspection Belt Conveyor System to improve the quality inspection process for roofing tiles.
The system was developed to provide a more consistent, efficient, and reliable inspection process compared with traditional manual inspection methods, while allowing the operator to monitor and manage the inspection process.
The entire machine consists of three sections, the first section is the loading station to unloading station tile transportation belt conveyor and the second section is the tile quality inspection camera vision system. Final section is a 3 color lighting system indicating tile quality.

**Inspection capacity:**
approximately 1,620 roofing tiles/hour.
**My Contribution:**
• Production requirement analysis & concept development
• Complete mechanical machine design
• 3D CAD modelling & assembly design
• Detailed 2D manufacturing drawings
• GD&T, fits & clearances where required
• DFM — Design for Manufacturing considerations
• Camera/vision inspection system integration
• Camera positioning & adjustment mechanism design
• Conveyor belt system design
• Roller, shaft, bearing & mechanical component selection
• Motor & drive system integration
• Sensor integration for inspection and product detection
• Control system development for semi-automatic operation
• Machine fabrication & mechanical assembly
• Installation, adjustment & alignment
• Testing, troubleshooting & optimization
• Final commissioning & production support
The entire control of the machine is done through the mini computer based control system.
**🧠 Capabilities Gained:**
This project strengthened my practical capabilities in machine vision integration, conveyor system design, mechanical design, automation, sensor integration, manufacturing-oriented CAD, machine assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, and production optimization.
💡 Most importantly, it strengthened my ability to combine mechanical engineering + machine vision + automation to develop a practical solution for a real industrial quality-control requirement.
