MJF Hinged Tube Clamp with Quick-Release Camera Mount | PA12, Design for 3D Printing
Clamp-on camera support for a 25 mm instrument body, designed from the start for MJF printing in PA12 nylon.
The jaw is hinged, so the clamp opens and goes on from the side instead of being slid along the tube. One M3 screw closes it, threading into a brass heat-set insert rather than into the nylon, so the clamp can be opened and closed many times without stripping. The 1.0 mm split gap closes onto tubes from 25.0 to 25.3 mm, and the hinge swings 120° without touching the body.
The camera sits at a fixed 20° angle, with no tilt mechanism to add size, weight or play. It rides on a dovetail quick-release plate with a 1/4"-20 camera screw. A printed flexure latch clicks the plate into place and releases with a thumb press on the rear lip. The latch arm runs at about 1.1 % strain, well inside what PA12 handles for repeated use.
The geometry follows MJF rules: 2.4 mm structural walls, 0.4 mm gaps around the hinge knuckles, a 0.3 mm running clearance on the dovetail, an open-frame tower instead of a solid block, and no closed cavities to trap powder. The three printed parts weigh about 15 g together.
Delivered: STEP assembly with the hardware (Ø2 dowel pin, M3 screw, heat-set insert, camera screw) and a reference camera and tube, STEP and MJF-ready STL of the three printed parts, and renders.
