This project focused on the mechanical design of a robust housing for a boat's gearbox. The challenge was to integrate complex lubrication and sealing systems while ensuring the internal gear train remained perfectly aligned under marine operating conditions.
Key Technical Features:
Sealing & Protection: Implemented DIN-standard rotary double-lip seals and high-grade static sealing between housing halves to prevent saltwater ingress.
Lubrication Management: Integrated a breathable filler cap, a magnetic drain plug for wear-particle collection, and a bullseye sight glass for rapid oil-level monitoring.
Engineering Innovation: Solved the internal bearing fixture challenge by designing a precision-clamping interface between the two housing halves. This "sandwich" technique secured the internal supports without the need for internal bolts or a third housing part, eliminating the risk of loose hardware damaging the gears.
Deliverables: Full 3D CAD model, SolidWorks files, and standardized component integration (DIN).
