Designing A Pottery Village

An academic design project for a pottery village, conceived around the idea of "orbit of potter's hand to kinetic geometry" — translating the rotational motion of a potter's wheel into architectural form. The masterplan radiates outward from a central courtyard, echoing the centrifugal movement of clay being shaped, while individual volumes rotate and shift around this core to create a dynamic, orbit-like settlement pattern. Built primarily in brick and textured stone, the design uses rhythmic vertical fins and colonnades to evoke the repetitive, meditative motion of hand-thrown pottery, while covered walkways and internal courtyards connect the workshop clusters. Water bodies and layered landscaping reinforce a sense of calm circulation through the site. Developed from concept and massing studies through detailed massing and photorealistic 3D visualization, covering site planning, material studies, and exterior rendering.
