3-Axis Gemstone Groove-Cutting Machine | Machine Design & Development
Three years ago, I designed and built my first complete machine-development project — a manual 3-axis gemstone groove-cutting machine for precision applications in the gem lapidary industry.
This is a manually operated 0.02mm accuracy 3 axis custom design Gemstone groove cutter machine. The mechanical process is designed according to the mechanism of cutting grooves to a precise value for gem setting. All three axis can be operated by rotary handle wheel, while only the high speed spindle motor will be driven by a 36V DC power supply with PWM speed controller.
This project was an important milestone in my engineering journey because I was involved in the complete machine-development process, from concept development and mechanical design through manufacturing, assembly, testing, and final optimization.
**My Contribution:**
• Developed the machine concept based on the required application
• Designed the complete mechanical structure and 3-axis positioning system
• Created detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings
• Applying GD&T, as well as fit and clearance values, to critical components with the aim of DFM.
• 3D printing of specialized parts
• Design and fabrication of electronic control circuits
• Selected and integrated mechanical and electronic components
• Managed mechanical fabrication and machine assembly
• Performed machine alignment, testing, precision adjustment, and troubleshooting

**🧠 Capabilities Gained:**
This project gave me valuable hands-on experience in precision mechanical design, 3-axis machine development, electronic circuit development, SolidWorks CAD modelling, engineering drawings, GD&T, fits & clearances, DFM, fabrication, assembly, alignment, and precision troubleshooting.
**💡 Most importantly,** it gave me the confidence and practical foundation to take a machine from an initial concept to a complete, functional product
🏆 My first complete machine-development project — another important milestone that strengthened my journey in machine design and development.
