We spent a week in Kosovo, giving talks on design, teaching English, and acting as judges in their first ever STEM fair. That experience helped me understand the role that design plays in providing a new way of seeing the world, especially in a country that is just learning how to dream for the first time. I brought that experience into my first job post-grad, a small design firm in Columbus, OH. Design is much more than the form or even the function of a product, it's asking questions and being open to an unexpected answer. I began my career in the CNC machining industry. I spent 7 years as a CNC machinist/programmer. I first encountered SolidWorks while working as a Machinist. I decided to move into mechanical design. I began taking classes in pursuit of a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While in school I took a position with a company that manufactures Roll Forming equipment. I worked as an Equipment designer for 3 years before accepting a Design Engineer position with a manufacturer of Industrial Pneumatic Tools. I worked my way up to Plant Manager and helped the company prosper for 4 years before we were purchased by our largest competitor. I still work for the new owners on a part time/remote basis.
