I am a designer and engineer that has worked on a very wide variety of projects over the years. Solidworks is my 3D modelling program of choice. My background is that I grew up in Birmingham, studied and worked in Bristol and currently live in London. I have a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, and worked a total of six years at Airbus (formerly British Aerospace). I ended up as a Structural Design Engineer, working with CAD, focussing on wing design for research and new projects. I left Airbus to pursue further studies and completed the Innovation Design Engineering course, a combined MA/MSc co-run by the Royal College of Art and Imperial College in the summer of 2011. I have been freelancing since then on a wide variety of tasks, running the gamut from creative to technical for such clients as Epson, Intel, Loowatt, the Royal College Of Art, Seeper, Spark Create, Studio XO and WPP. I have helped make fashion garments with integrated technology for major pop stars, exhibition designs on the future of retail and even a waterless toilet for use in developing countries. I specialise in making 3D designs on Autodesk Inventor, specifying materials and doing some stress analysis, then creating engineering drawings for manufacture. Being able to design to military standards and adhere to other numerous standards, including a long list of ISO standards. My working life has consisted of manufacturing and fitting for 9 years, and now to a heavily design based work for the past 3 years. And now more recently i am looking to branch out and offer my engineering services further afield with the hopes of becoming a full time freelance engineer in search of innovative projects that spark my interest. Unfortunately i can't talk publicly about my previous contracted work, however i can talk about my engineering interest outside of work that has lead me to build; 1. Motorbike from the ground up, completing all the work myself, including engine, gearing, electrics and painting. 2. Computer for myself and a few friends over the years, creating custom units based on required needs. 3. Security Torch with the power of a car headlight. 4. Converting a Panel Van into an insulated Day van, complete with 4 layers of insulation and sound proofing, windows and electrics. Also replacing the Turbo and brakes. 5. Designing and building a TV within a coffee table for playing retro games or displaying D&D maps. 6. 3D printing solutions to problems that i come across in day to day life. 7. Designing and building a Rock tumbler for use with 3D printing parts to smooth the surface ready for painting. specifying the motor, gear ratio and media to be used. 8. And many many more, that are a bit too small to list here. My interests in engineering are as follows: Automotive, Mechanical, electrical, weight saving & structural design, material design and sustainability to name a few.
