I am a designer and engineer that has worked on a very wide variety of projects over the years. Solidworks is my 3D modelling program of choice. My background is that I grew up in Birmingham, studied and worked in Bristol and currently live in London. I have a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, and worked a total of six years at Airbus (formerly British Aerospace). I ended up as a Structural Design Engineer, working with CAD, focussing on wing design for research and new projects. I left Airbus to pursue further studies and completed the Innovation Design Engineering course, a combined MA/MSc co-run by the Royal College of Art and Imperial College in the summer of 2011. I have been freelancing since then on a wide variety of tasks, running the gamut from creative to technical for such clients as Epson, Intel, Loowatt, the Royal College Of Art, Seeper, Spark Create, Studio XO and WPP. I have helped make fashion garments with integrated technology for major pop stars, exhibition designs on the future of retail and even a waterless toilet for use in developing countries. I am always on the lookout for new, interesting adventures and challenges, and work on many projects in my spare time to increase my learning.

Educated to high level, graduating first from Furniture Design and manufacture and later Marine Engineering with a focus on High Performance composites and Marine structure design. Currently working predominantly as design engineer for new build superyachts in the south of England and often super/mega yacht refit and modifications around Europe. I am experienced in 3D modelling for concept design, CAD CAM, 3D printing and producing manufacture drawings for shop floor. I have produced rendered images and presentations of design concepts, and given detailed manufacture specifications for components, furniture and large modifications for some of the largest Superyachts in the world. E.G. Yachts Rising Sun, Aglaia/Ahimsa, Ecstasy, Moonbird, Nirvana, Cinderella IV and many more. I have a very good understanding of manufacture processes and I daily deal with issuing manufacture instructions and specifications by means of 2d drawings and discussions with project managers. My name is Neil Armstrong and I was born in Torbay, Devon, England in 1979. I grew up in Devon and had a number of jobs locally before moving to Fife, Scotland in 2008. After being made redundant from my job as a window fabricator due to the economic downturn, in 2009 I decided to go back into education after a number of years and undertook a HNC in Computer Aided Draughting and Design at Adam Smith College in Kirkcaldy, Fife. I successfully completed the course with an A grade and was also awarded a £500 DIAGEO Engineering Scholarship which rewards commitment to studies and success in coursework. In 2014 I graduated from Edinburgh Napier University where I undertook a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Product Design.

My background is in construction and joinery which i did for many years, working for and also owning construction and shop-fitting businesses. I have formal qualifications in those fields but there was really no need for me to undertake expensive training with CAD as it was just something I used every day and gained experience with over many years. I am a requirement driven, self taught designer of mechanical and other objects or assemblies. I have extensive experience with AutoCAD, fusion360 and other less used cad programs. I have recently begun prototyping with FDM and traditional manual machining processes as the need arises and I have been surprised how many times I have been able to quickly design, iterate and produce fully functional 3d printed and manually machined parts for specific projects.
