About the job
SUBCONTRACTOR OPPORTUNITY: Plastic Injection Molding / Product Engineer
We are a small startup developing a patented plastic injection molded consumer product.
We have a proven prototype and 3D CAD models (obj, ipt, stp) that need final improvements. Now we need an experienced Plastic Injection Molding / Product Engineer subcontractor to refine and optimize the design for high-volume manufacturing and bring it to production.
Project Scope
• Design for Injection Molding (DFM): Refine our 5-piece acrylic device.
• Material Engineering: Optimize acrylic with 1–2 wt.% zinc-oxide (ZnO) nanoparticle infusion for long-lasting antimicrobial performance while maintaining clarity.
• Mold Design & Tooling Recommendations: Specify and qualify multi-cavity molds that hit aggressive unit costs while preserving functional performance and glass-like finish.
• Process Validation: Support iteration for scalable, reliable production.
• FUTURE Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with injection molding suppliers (domestic or overseas) to ensure quality, cost, and timelines for retail and DTC launch.
You Bring
• 5+ years proven experience as a plastic injection molding engineer or product engineer specializing in high-volume consumer or medical-grade parts.
• Adept at editing the product model in Fusion360 or similar software.
• Strong expertise in acrylic injection molding and material science, complex internal geometries, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
• Hands-on knowledge...
