About the job
1. Project Overview
VendPro, Inc. operates coin- and card-operated air, water, and vacuum vending machines installed at gas stations across Southern California. We are seeking a qualified mechanical design engineer to reverse-engineer the parts of an existing air/water vending machine and produce complete, manufacturing-ready CAD drawings and specifications. The deliverables will be used to solicit competitive manufacturing quotes from alternate suppliers.
2. Deliverables
● Native CAD files in SolidWorks (.sldprt / .sldasm) or AutoCAD (.dwg), as agreed.
● 2D manufacturing drawings (PDF) for each part, fully dimensioned with tolerances and GD&T where appropriate.
● Bill of Materials (BOM) listing every part, quantity, material, finish, and any standard hardware (fasteners, hinges, locks, etc.).
● Material and finish specifications for each part (e.g., 16-gauge galvanized steel, powder-coat color and spec, stainless grade).
● Assembly drawings showing how parts fit together.
● STEP (.stp) files for each part for universal compatibility.
3. Scope of Parts
The machine consists of an outer cabinet, internal mounting brackets, door assembly with lock, coin/card acceptor housing, plumbing and pneumatic mounting plates, signage panels, and miscellaneous sheet metal and machined components. The contractor will be provided physical access to one complete machine for measurement and inspection. Approximate part count: 25–40 unique parts.
4. Technical Requirements
● All drawi...

4. Technical Requirements
● All drawings must follow ASME Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing standards.
● Tolerances must be realistic and manufacturable (no unnecessarily tight callouts).
● Sheet metal parts must include flat patterns and bend information.
● Title blocks must be blank or use a VendPro template (to be provided).
5. Process & Access
Parts will be made available for measurement at VendPro's Riverside, CA facility, or arrangements can be made to ship a sample machine to the contractor. 3D scanning is acceptable and encouraged for complex geometries.
6. Confidentiality
A mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement must be signed before any parts, drawings, or project details are shared. All deliverables, including intermediate files, are the exclusive property of VendPro, Inc.
7. Proposal Requirements
Please provide the following with your bid:
● Fixed-price quote (preferred) or hourly rate with not-to-exceed cap.
● Estimated timeline from project start to final delivery.
● Two or three sample drawings from prior reverse-engineering or sheet metal projects.
● Brief description of your measurement approach (calipers, CMM, 3D scan, etc.).
● Confirmation of software (SolidWorks version or AutoCAD version).
● References from at least two prior clients
