About the job
We are looking for a senior industrial designer or product designer to help us refine an existing best-selling wireless wall sconce for a new upgraded version.
This is not a full product invention from scratch.
This is a refinement project for an existing product that already sells well.
Our goal is to create a more premium, better-proportioned, more polished version of the current wall sconce while keeping the core DNA of the product.
We want someone with a strong eye for:
proportions
shape refinement
premium feel
materials and finishes
decorative/home product aesthetics
practical design decisions that remain realistic for manufacturing
We are not looking for a big agency-style process, long workshops, or overcomplicated exploration.
We want a sharp, experienced person who can quickly identify what should be improved and propose strong but realistic refinements.
About the product:
The product is a wireless wall sconce sold in the home decor / interior space.
The current version works commercially, but we want to improve:
material feel
dimensions / proportions
ergonomics
overall shape refinement
finish quality
shade fabric / premium perception
overall visual balance and perceived value
The goal is to make the product feel like a stronger, more elevated version of itself — without unnecessarily reinventing everything.
Scope of work:
We want help with:
reviewing the current product
identifying what makes it feel less premium today...

The goal is to make the product feel like a stronger, more elevated version of itself — without unnecessarily reinventing everything.
Scope of work:
We want help with:
reviewing the current product
identifying what makes it feel less premium today
recommending what should be improved first
proposing 2–3 refined directions max
suggesting improvements to:
dimensions
silhouette / shape
materials
finishes
shade / fabric
premium feel
small ergonomic improvements
giving guidance that remains realistic for production with a factory
Important:
We do not want:
a full innovation project
branding work
packaging work
a large research phase
unnecessary strategy workshops
10+ concept routes
a total redesign of the product platform unless clearly justified
This is a focused product refinement / premiumization project.
Deliverables expected:
At minimum, we expect:
a short audit / assessment of the current product
a prioritized list of recommended improvements
2–3 design directions maximum
recommendations on dimensions / proportions
recommendations on materials / finishes / shade fabric
simple sketches, visual directions, or light CAD depending on your workflow
notes on feasibility / manufacturing logic / cost sensitivity
If the collaboration goes well, there may be a second phase for:
refinement of the selected direction
prototype feedback
more detailed design adjustments for production handoff
Ideal profile:
senior industrial designer / product designer
experience with home decor, lighting, furniture, or premium consumer products
strong sense of form, balance, and premium perception
able to improve an existing product, not only invent new ones
understands manufacturing constraints and practical trade-offs
comfortable collaborating with an overseas factory / supplier
able to work fast and stay focused
Please apply only if:
you have relevant experience in physical product design
you can show examples of products you helped refine or upgrade
you have a strong portfolio in product / industrial design
you understand the difference between a simple refinement project and a full redesign project
When applying, please answer these questions:
Can you share examples of existing products you helped improve or redesign?
Have you worked on lighting, home decor, furniture, or similar physical products?
What would you typically look at first when refining a product like a wall sconce: proportions, materials, finish, shape, ergonomics, or something else?
How do you improve premium feel without making the product too expensive or too complex to manufacture?
Are you comfortable working on a short initial paid audit phase before a broader redesign phase?
Project structure:
We would ideally start with a small paid first phase to evaluate fit, then extend into a second phase if the collaboration is strong.
