About the job
Project Description:
We're seeking a skilled CAD designer to develop a small, two-part mechanical locking mechanism that securely connects and disconnects with a tactile physical motion (e.g., snap-fit, slide, or quarter-turn). The design will be attached to a soft or flexible surface, so low profile and minimal protrusion are critical.
The part will be 3D printed using FDM (PETG or TPU), and will undergo functional testing as part of a consumer product development project.
Key Requirements:
Design must feature a mechanical lock/release action (snap-fit, slide, or twist)
Compact size: roughly 20–30 mm total footprint
Optimized for FDM 3D printing (specifically on Bambu Lab Mini printer)
Materials: PETG or TPU
Deliverables: STEP + STL files (ready for slicing)
Tolerances that enable secure locking but easy manual release
No protruding or dangling parts
Confidentiality Notice:
This is part of a commercial development project.
Full functional context, design sketches, and references will only be shared after a signed NDA.
Please indicate your willingness to sign an NDA in your proposal.
Ideal Candidate:
Experience with snap-fit or press-fit mechanical design
Familiarity with 3D printing tolerances and real-world fit
Previous work on mechanical or consumer product components preferred
