# Modifying the MJVision camera enclosure for the Jetson Orin NX and two FRAMOS IMX678 cameras Anyone

About the job

## Project overview

An enclosure has already been fully designed for the MJVision panoramic football camera using the Radxa ROCK 5B+ board. The existing project includes the CAD/source files, STEP assemblies, STL files, drawings, internal holders, battery holder, tripod mount, buttons, connector openings, ventilation and assembly documentation.

This project is **not a new enclosure**. The goal is to modify the existing one so it takes the new Jetson, FRAMOS and 5G hardware, reusing as much of the accepted design as possible.

The camera records football outdoors, on a tripod or pole, in sun, rain and floodlights. **Design target: IP65** against rain, dust and splashes. Not for underwater use.

## Design conditions

- **Ambient:** 0 to 35 °C, including direct sun on the enclosure.
- **Heat to remove:** design for **30 W continuous** from the electronics, with headroom for 40 W peaks. This covers the Jetson under full analysis load, the 5G modem, the cameras and power-conversion losses.
- **Sealed:** no outside air may pass through the enclosure.
- **Acceptance:** the Jetson must not slow down from heat during a 1-hour recording at 35 °C. MJVision runs this test on the prototype.

## Cooling (the most important point)

A sealed IP65 enclosure cannot exhaust fan air, so cooling must work **through the wall**:

- Couple the Jetson heatsink to an **aluminium panel or insert with external fins**, using a thermal pad, heat pipe or direct-contact plate. Replacing... read more

Replacing the stock heatsink with a contact plate is acceptable.
- The internal fan may stay, to move air inside, but there must be no air exchange with the outside.
- Keep the hot panel away from the cameras, the battery and the antennas, and protect it from direct sun where practical.
- Fit a **pressure-equalising membrane vent** (Gore-type, IP65 or better) plus a desiccant pocket, so the camera windows do not fog.
- **Deliverable:** a short thermal calculation showing the heat path handles 30 W at 35 °C (fin area, thermal resistance, expected Jetson temperature).

## Main components

### Yahboom Jetson Orin NX Super 16 GB

- Assembly without the plastic base: about **100 × 80.8 × 34.84 mm**. Minimum reserved volume: **110 × 92 × 45 mm**.
- Includes heatsink, fan and NVMe SSD.
- **Power input:** DC barrel 5.5 × 2.5 mm, **9–19 V**, up to about 40 W.
- Use a **removable internal tray**. Verify the final mounting-hole positions against the physical board.
- **Service access** (behind a removable panel): NVMe, DisplayPort, camera connectors.

### Two FRAMOS IMX678 cameras

Model: **FSM:GO-IMX678C-M12-L110A-PM-A1Q1**

- PCB **26.5 × 26.5 mm**, four Ø2.2 mm holes on a **22 × 22 mm** pattern (M2 screws).
- Lens about **Ø20 mm**, assembly depth about **32.6 mm**. Reserve **35 × 35 × 45 mm** per camera.
- Lens focus is set and locked before assembly: no access needed.

Each camera also comes with parts that need space and routing:

- **FRAMOS adapter board** (FPA-A/P22-V2), one per camera. Size: **[to be measured on the supplied part]**.
- **22-pin flat cable, 0.2 m** (FMA-CBL-FFC22), from each adapter to the Jetson's CAM0 / CAM1 connectors.
- No fold tighter than **5 mm** radius.
- Strain relief at both ends.
- Not routed over the heatsink.
- **Sync cable, 150 mm** (FMA-CBL-MPB125-150/5), between the two cameras.

### Camera geometry and windows

- **Angle:** **62° between the two optical axes**, each camera **31°** outward from the enclosure centreline. Fixed and rigid, tolerance **±0.5°**. No adjustment.
- Both optical axes lie in the **same horizontal plane** (±0.5°).
- **Each lens sees** 110° horizontally, 62° vertically and 127° diagonally. Together the two cameras cover about **172°**, with about **48°** of overlap.
- **Clear field per window, around its own lens axis:** ±55° horizontal, ±31° vertical, ±63.5° diagonal, **plus a 5° margin on every side**. In practice that is a clear cone of **±68.5°**. Window frame, gasket, screws and shell must all stay outside it.
- **Window opening size:** opening Ø ≥ 20 mm + 2 × d × 2.54, where d = the gap from the lens front to the window:
- d = 2 mm → **Ø30 mm** or more
- d = 5 mm → **Ø45 mm** or more
- so place each window **2–3 mm** from its lens.
- **Window:** one flat window per camera, **square to its own lens axis**, **2–3 mm** optical glass or polycarbonate, **anti-reflective coated on both sides** (floodlights at night). Gasketed and outdoor-rated.
- **Distance between the two lens centres:** as small as possible, **40 mm maximum**, to limit stitching seams.
- Each unit is calibrated after assembly, so the holders must not move once screwed in.

### 5G modem and USB adapter

- Modem: **SIMCom SIM8262E-M2**, M.2 3042, **42 × 30 × 2.3 mm**, four antenna connections.
- Adapter: **KALEA M.2 B-Key to USB 3.0** (https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0933MYR3K). There is no reliable mechanical drawing, so use an **adjustable or removable cradle**, not assumed hole positions.
- Minimum space: **90 × 50 × 20 mm**.
- Preferred area: **120 × 60 × 25 mm**, including the USB connector, cable bends and antenna connections.
- **Separate 5 V / 3–4 A supply for the modem:** a 5G modem draws up to 3–4 A, far more than USB can give, and USB power alone makes it drop out. Reserve space for a step-down converter from the battery, about **45 × 25 × 15 mm**, plus its wiring.
- **SIM access:** external, close to the adapter's SIM slot, so the SIM extension stays short. Sealed removable cover.

### Antennas

Six antenna cables in total:
- **two Wi-Fi** (the Jetson's Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card);
- **four 5G**.

- **Recommended for 5G: external antennas** on **IP67 bulkhead connectors**. Four internal 5G antennas next to the heatsink, battery and fan will perform poorly.
- **If internal:** reserve about **100 × 20 × 5 mm** per antenna, at least **50 mm** apart where practical, away from the heatsink, battery, metal fasteners and each other. The walls must have no metal paint or coating.
- All cables need **retention clips**, **service loops** and **safe bend radii**.

## Power

- **Keep the ENERpower 4S2P battery** and its holder (14.4 V nominal, 12–16.8 V).
- **Re-rate or replace the ROCK 5B+ power electronics** (fuse, converters, connectors, wiring) for the Jetson: 9–19 V barrel input, up to 40 W, plus the modem's 5 V / 3–4 A rail.
- **Keep the external charging connection.** The camera must be able to charge while recording: check the charging budget against the Jetson's load. The charger is USB-C PD, 45 W minimum, 65 W preferred.
- **Keep the power button, Bluetooth button and status LED,** rewired to the Jetson's 40-pin header. MJVision supplies the pin assignment.

## External connections (all sealed)

| Connection | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Charging | Existing connection, sealed |
| Ethernet | IP67 RJ45 bulkhead, or behind the sealed service cover |
| USB-A (USB 3) for a USB stick | IP67 bulkhead, or behind a sealed cover |
| HDMI input (USB capture stick inside) | **Optional: MJVision confirms** |
| 5G antennas | IP67 bulkheads, if external |
| SIM | Sealed removable cover |
| DisplayPort, NVMe | Service access only, behind a removable sealed panel |

## Existing features to retain where practical

- Outer enclosure shape and general dimensions
- ENERpower 4S2P battery holder
- Reinforced **1/4"-20 UNC metal tripod insert**
- Power and Bluetooth buttons, status LED
- External charging connection
- Cable-retention features
- Accessible maintenance and assembly arrangement

If the same outer shell cannot practically take the new hardware, change only the minimum: internal tray, camera holders, connector panel, SIM panel, sealing, and the cooling panel.

## Materials and sealing

- **Printed parts in UV-resistant ASA** (PETG acceptable), walls **≥ 2.5 mm**, printed and finished for water tightness.
- **Gasket or O-ring grooves** on every joint and cover; **stainless** fasteners; **brass heat-set inserts** for screws that are opened for service.
- Windows glued or gasketed into their frames.
- **IP65 is checked by a water-spray test on the printed prototype** (done by MJVision): the design must allow a rework of the seals if it leaks.

## Required deliverables

- Modified native CAD/source files
- Complete STEP assembly with **every** component envelope: Jetson, cameras, FRAMOS adapters, flat cables, modem and adapter, 5 V converter, battery, antennas, vent, connectors
- Printable STL files
- Internal and exploded assembly drawings
- Fully dimensioned manufacturing drawings
- Component and fastener BOM, including windows, gaskets, vent and bulkhead connectors
- Cable-routing drawings: camera flat cables, sync cable, power, USB, six antenna cables
- Gasket and sealing specification
- **Thermal concept and calculation** (30 W at 35 °C)
- **Camera field-of-view check:** the ±68.5° cone clear for both windows, shown in CAD
- Internal interference and clearance check
- Assembly and maintenance instructions
- Consistent CAD, STEP and STL files

## Supplied by MJVision

- The existing enclosure CAD package
- Datasheets and photos of the new parts, and physical measurements on request
- The Jetson pin assignment for the buttons and LED
- Answers to technical questions within 24 hours

## Milestones and schedule

- **Milestone 1: layout and concepts.** All components placed in the shell with clearances (STEP with envelopes), camera holders and windows with the field-of-view check, the cooling concept with its calculation, connector and SIM panels, and the cable-routing plan.
- Accepted when everything fits, both ±68.5° cones are clear, and the heat path is justified for 30 W at 35 °C.
- **Milestone 2: final package.** Final CAD, STEP and STL, drawings, BOM, gasket specification, routing drawings, instructions and the consistency check.
- **Estimated time:** about **10 days**.
