About the job
PROJECT TITLE:
CAD Engineering Specialist Required: 600kg Microlight Adaptation of Ercoupe 415-C/D Blueprints
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
I am scratch-building a modern 3-axis microlight aircraft targeting the UK 600kg Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) category under BCAR Section S guidelines. The project is strictly based on the original 1940s Ercoupe 415-C engineering blueprints. I am acting as the project builder and require a freelance CAD/Aerospace engineer to vectorize, modify, and optimize specific blueprint groups.
CORE DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:
1. Blueprint Vectorization and Modernization: Convert original Ercoupe 415-C paper or raster drawings for the fuselage frame, dashboard structure, and wing profiles into clean 3D CAD models (STEP/IGES) and 2D production vectors (DXF/DWG).
2. All-Metal Wing Conversion: The original 415-C used fabric-covered outer wing panels. I require these to be engineered as a fully stressed, all-metal structure (similar to the 415-D model) using modern aircraft-grade aluminium (such as 6061-T6 or 2024-T3). The designer must perform basic weight estimation to ensure the added skin weight fits within our strict microlight empty-weight budget.
3. Firewall Forward (FWF) Rotax Integration: Redesign the engine engine mount and cowling to accommodate a modern, liquid-cooled Rotax 912 series engine (replacing the vintage Continental A-65). This includes calculating the slight forward shift required to maintain the original Center of Gravity (CoG) limits due t...

This includes calculating the slight forward shift required to maintain the original Center of Gravity (CoG) limits due to the lighter Rotax engine weight.
4. Custom Center Console and Control Integration: The aircraft features the iconic Ercoupe rudderless, interconnected "two-control" system operated via dashboard-mounted dual yokes. I require a modern center console designed between the seats. The mechanical control "mixer box" (which coordinates the mechanical aileron-to-rudder deflection ratio) must be cleanly packaged and routed inside this new center console floor tunnel, alongside a modern Rotax throttle quadrant and trim controls.
DELIVERABLES REQUIRED:
• Parametric 3D CAD models of modified assemblies (Fuselage center section, new Center Console, and Rotax Engine Mount).
• 2D DXF vector files for sheet metal laser or CNC cutting of the new all-metal wing ribs and skins.
• Preliminary Weight and Balance / Center of Gravity (CoG) spreadsheet accounting for the Rotax engine and all-metal wings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in light aircraft design, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical control kinematics, or familiarity with UK LAA, BMAA, or BCAR Section S airworthiness standards is highly preferred.
