I really wanted to find something different for the front connector but i found out the suction cup and clip were the widest used. I'll be using a suction cup of 1.75" which requires approximately 600N of force to remove which is hundreds of times higher than the dropping force from the phone.
I can change the side clips a bit too if desired, i am going to be adding springs for the clips to hold things on the clips.

#12 Cell phone holder with lock by Wyatt
I have attempted to include all requirements for this model. This design was generated with assembly in mind.
The cell phone is attached to the tether via the reinforced suction cup to ensure proper grip, most cell phones have a smooth enough outer surface for the suction cup.
The suction cup is backed with a plug that attaches to a small cylinder piece, as can be seen in the bottom right photograph.
The small cylinder piece slides into the top of the main hook slot (a ball detent could be added to clip/lock the cylinder piece when fully inserted if needed but the weight of the phone should suffice to hold the pieces together).
The tether is attached to the cylinder by a simple loop of strong string or very thin rope and then clamped where the string/rope meets itself, this will allow free range of motion of the device.
The other end of the tether is attached to an internal spool which is held in tension by a spiral spring.
I have also included a sliding lock mechanism at the bottom for this model to hold the tether in place where ever desired.

Does the locking tether need to able to UNLOCK at any length as well or just when pulled to its extents? This will help me choose which mechanism to use.

I ask because there are two mechanisms that i can possibly use, one which is like the mechanism in a tape measuring device which is more like a braking a system. The other option is to use a mechanism commonly used in retractable cord devices such as the one you have in your pictures or on some vacuum cleaners or extension cords.
