This is a rough idea - I can't say with confidence that this model - in its current state - would work, but if you think that the concept here is worth pursuing, perhaps with some experimentation and revision this might potentially achieve the goal. The basic idea here is that a balloon is inserted through a tube into the spherical mould, and once the balloon is inflated, its shape is held by a thin metal net that will hold a somewhat consistent spherical surface pushing against the pre-measured volume of water to define the inside of the hollow ice ball.
