Description:
Looking for an engineer who can design a wall grappling hook that can suspend a hanging chair hammock between two partition walls in a toilet stall. The chair hammock has 4 straps which are attached to 4 identical wall hooks affixed at the top of the toilet stall partition. The hook must be able to hold securely in place as load weight is gradually applied. The typical user will install the hammock as follows: attach hooks on the side partition walls of the toilet stall - towards the front and back of stall and on both sides, attach hammock straps onto the hook, sits down on the hammock and if necessary get back up to adjust straps to ideal chair height and position. Previous designs of the hook did not stay in place and slid towards the centre of the wall due to side torque as weight was applied via the straps at roughly 45 degree angles (which also damaged or marked up the walls). We need a rockstar engineer who can solve this design challenge with a sense of humour.
Wants:
a) Hook design must be the same for all 4 attachment points i.e. no left or right, back or front specific hooks

b) Hooks can withstand 100kg static load with side torque

c) Hooks must remain firmly in place with side torque as weight is applied at 45 degree angle

d) Hook must allow for partition wall width variance of between 10 - 15mm as toilet stall designs / materials vary

e) Hook must not scratch the wall i.e. use of rubber or similar material

f) Hook mechanism must be easy / quick to install and snap into place (like a vice grip) to give assurance that hook is secure and will not move as weight is applied

g) Design must be as light and compact as possible to ensure portability and reduce shipping costs

h) Design must be as unobtrusive as possible so that hook is not too noticeable in adjacent toilet stall or outside of stall

i) Design is relatively cheap to manufacture with low volume; note that we tried 3D printing with previous designs but needed special resin due to weight (regular plastics broke under stress)
Don't Wants:
Simplicity is best - no complicated designs

Try and leverage existing product designs (per attached photos)

Hello Designers,

Thank you to everyone who submitted a design. Whilst some of the designs were interesting and have potential, none are suitable for my requirements. Therefore we've re-opened the contest for one more week and will be increasing the prize money by $200. I will also private message the designers who came up with the most interesting designs to provide more explicit feedback of what improvements could be made to their designs.

Cheers,
Dany

Would a sheet metal design be acceptable? Also, is 'snap into place' in requirement (f) a hard requirement if the design leverages the user's weight in securing it?

Hello, do you have any pictures of parts of the wall where the hook will be attached. Thank you.

I think the toilet stall you are talking about are based on standard of 18mm thick wall with Marine-Ply core faced with high pressure laminate in wet areas. Silver anodized aluminum edge trim to perimeter of all panels. Extruded aluminum alloy 6060 with exposed face anodic coated.
And not advisable to carry a 100kg load, but I recommend a rectangular adjustable horizontal bracing support connected to 4 hooks to be able the balance of a static or a dynamic load.

Hi, do you have a picture of your hammock attached on the walls of toilet stall.
I need to see your product and how is attached to the wall so I can think of the solution.

4 DoF mechanical arm mounted on a tripod
We want to design an arm which can be mounted on a tripod as shown in the attached image. The total length of the arm is going to be 1.5m from pivot to end effector. For the movement of the joints please refer the other image. The total weight of the arm and the mechanism has to be less than 3kg. The payload is going to be less than 300 grams. Your job is to design the underlying mechanism which can drive this arm as smoothly as possible. The deliverables are going to be CAD of the mechanism and BOM and anything else which will be required to prototype the arm. The project will only begin with this contest and the designer will be hired for continuation of the project.
Roller Mop
This is for a new mop invention. I was able to make a somewhat functioning scaled model of just the internal mechanisms as seen in the attached video. Taking from the carpet sweeper seen here: http://bit.ly/32vqkGF, I want it to have 3 sponge rollers that spin in alternate directions at an accelerated speed (3:1) so that when it is pushed across the floor, the sponge rollers spin to mop up a mess. I used gear pullies to spin the rollers, however, I am open to any kind of gears based on your expertise for efficiency, durability, efficacy, and cost of goods. This will be a retail product and I would like to keep the price competitive with sweepers. Please provide the following: - Completed product with retail-ready design - Full size (similar to the carpet sweeper) - Rollers should have push pin or equivalent to easily pop rollers in and out (they will be replenishments with a variety of roller options (i.e. brillow, sponge, brush, shammy, etc.) - It should break down to fit into a retail box, again similar to the carpet sweeper link provided. - Rollers are 1" diameter - Wheels are 2"
