Wood Planer Retrofit | Mechanical Design & Machine Modernization
Complete mechanical retrofit and modernization of an existing industrial woodworking planer, including redesign of mechanical systems, guards, enclosures and machine adjustments.
The project involved rebuilding and adapting the machine to improve its mechanical configuration, accessibility, protection and overall usability while retaining the main functional concept of the original equipment.
My scope included 3D mechanical design in SolidWorks, redesign of the machine structure and enclosure, adjustable infeed and outfeed tables, fence and guide mechanisms, cutter-head adjustment systems, internal transmission components, protective guards, access panels and extraction interfaces.
Particular attention was given to operator adjustment, maintenance access, moving mechanisms, protection of rotating components and integration of the existing machine elements into the new mechanical design.
The project included detailed CAD assemblies, internal mechanism studies, general arrangement drawings, maintenance sections and technical documentation for fabrication and assembly.
The machine was manufactured, assembled and delivered after the retrofit. The portfolio includes the completed equipment, CAD development, internal mechanical details and documentation created for the project.
Project materials shown in this portfolio are shared with authorization from the project owner.
