Suspension Shock Absorber Technical Concept Design

What happens inside a suspension shock-absorber? The aim of this piece was to create a unique and technically correct design for a suspension shock absorber. The end result was an animation showing the assembly sequence of many small components, followed by realistic deformation of a coil spring and movement of oil and air inside a sealed system. [See the Animation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSEc94wJOhk) I designed the shock absorber, based on existing designs and technical drawings. All components are life size and realistic in their functionality. Metal shims, valves and adjusters are all shown being assembled in a simulation of a real product. Making sure the coil spring would move correctly was a challenge in rigging the deformation of the 3D mesh. Showing the movement of oil and air volumes inside the sealed damping chamber was achieved with an x-ray effect.
