Redesign of Fence Alignment to Avoid 10kV Underground Cables – Full Engineering Solution
A fence line project was submitted for site staking. During the document review, I identified a critical error: the fence alignment was designed directly above existing 10kV underground power cables, as shown on an outdated topographic plan where the cables were not present.
I immediately halted all site works and notified the client, providing a new topographic plan with the correct cable locations.
Based on this data, I completely redesigned the fence alignment, taking into account:
Existing land plot boundaries and turning points
Safe distance from high‑voltage cables
Even span distribution according to the standard screw pile spacing
In certain sections where underground cables made full relocation impossible, I specified the use of concrete block foundations instead of screw piles to ensure safe installation without damaging the cables.
The updated design was approved by the client, and I then performed the full site staking for the corrected fence line.
This project demonstrates the ability to identify design flaws, provide engineering solutions, and ensure safety and compliance on site.
