Project:Prototype Pump Bracket (P/N NPA6162894)
Software: SOLIDWORKS 2024
Project Type: Mechanical Engineering Drawing and Manufacturing Documentation
This project involved developing a detailed manufacturing drawing for a prototype pump bracket using SOLIDWORKS 2024. Working from a supplied STEP model, my responsibility was to interpret the existing geometry and produce a technical drawing suitable for manufacturing review, without redesigning or modelling the bracket from scratch.
I created orthographic, sectional, isometric and enlarged detail views to clearly communicate the bracket's geometry, dimensions and critical features. I applied Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), including datum references, basic dimensions and positional tolerances for the mounting and locating holes.
A key part of the exercise involved calculating and specifying a proposed interference fit for two ¼-inch MS16555 dowel pins using the supplied pin specification. I also documented the requirements for three #4-40 UNC threaded holes and four mounting holes for #6-32 socket head screws.
The drawing incorporated material specifications for 6061-T6 aluminium, surface finish requirements, edge-break instructions, general tolerances and a manufacturing title block.
My contribution was limited to CAD drawing development, dimensional interpretation, tolerance selection and manufacturing documentation. I did not design the original bracket geometry, manufacture the component or physically validate the assembly.
This project demonstrates my ability to interpret existing 3D CAD models and translate them into detailed engineering drawings, while applying manufacturing considerations and dimensional tolerancing principles.
