Precision Workpiece Spindle for SiC Grinding | KonstruktaX
Mechanical design of a workpiece spindle developed as part of my own SiC boule grinding machine project at KonstruktaX.
The spindle is designed to hold and rotate the workpiece during precision grinding. The design combines an HSK-A63 interface, an integrated motor, precision bearing arrangements, a clamping and release mechanism, bearing cooling, and position feedback within a coordinated assembly.
My work covers the spindle concept, bearing arrangement, shaft and housing design, integration of purchased components, and detailed 3D CAD assembly modelling. Particular attention was given to manufacturability, assembly access, and integration into the surrounding machine.
This project demonstrates my approach to custom spindle and precision machine design: developing the mechanical components together with their interfaces, assembly requirements, and intended operating conditions.
Project status: 3D mechanical design completed. Images show CAD renderings; physical performance has not yet been validated through prototype testing.
