Localized Weld Grinding Machine | Mechanical Design & Surface Finishing

Mechanical design and engineering development of a special-purpose grinding machine for localized weld finishing on large cylindrical components. The system was designed to position and move a belt grinding head along the workpiece while maintaining controlled contact with the cylindrical surface. The equipment accommodates different workpiece diameters and allows adjustment of the grinding head position and working angle. My scope included the complete mechanical design in SolidWorks, machine layout, welded support structure, roller supports for the cylindrical component, longitudinal carriage, grinding-head mounting and tilting mechanisms, pneumatic actuation, drive components, guards and manufacturing documentation. The grinding head was designed around a 100 × 2500 mm abrasive belt and integrated into the machine structure for localized finishing operations. Engineering considerations included contact pressure, belt speed, workpiece diameter range, adjustment, accessibility, maintenance and operator safety. The portfolio shows the complete CAD assembly, functional details, machine mechanisms, operating envelope and examples of manufacturing and technical documentation developed for the project. Project materials shown in this portfolio are shared with authorization from the project owner.
