Hydraulic Prostate Examination Probe
I designed and built a functional prototype of a hydraulically actuated prostate examination probe intended to support the controlled assessment of prostate condition during urological examinations. The project combined medical device development, miniature hydraulics, precision mechanical engineering and advanced CAD design within a highly compact instrument.
The probe uses a miniature hydraulic system to create precise, repeatable movement and controlled contact force. The internal mechanism was engineered to fit within a narrow, curved housing while maintaining smooth operation, mechanical stability and accurate force transmission.
My work covered the complete product development process, including concept generation, 3D CAD modelling, hydraulic mechanism design, tolerance analysis, component integration, prototype manufacturing, assembly, functional testing and design refinement. Special attention was given to compact packaging, reliability, controlled actuation, patient safety, cleanability and suitability for medical-device applications.
The completed prototype demonstrated a compact hydraulic solution for a specialised urology diagnostic instrument, integrating multiple precision components and moving mechanisms into a practical handheld device. This project highlights my experience in medical product development, complex mechanism design, miniature fluid-power systems and functional prototype production.
