Hydraulic Expansion Chuck — From 3D Models to a Full Drawing Package
A client sent me a 3D assembly of a hydraulic expansion chuck and asked for the complete engineering drawing package. My process starts with inventory, not drawing: every part counted, formats and assembly relations verified before a single line is placed. On this part the working features — oil chamber, thin wall, sealing faces — are all internal, so full section views were mandatory. Drawn in Autodesk Inventor on my own drawing template and delivered as native, fully editable IDW files plus PDF. In review, the chuck body and center were upgraded to GCr15 bearing steel (drawing YZ-003), while one workpiece material was deliberately left marked "TBD" rather than guessed — a wrong grade on a drawing becomes the wrong metal in the shop. AI tools speed up the drafting; every sheet is checked and signed off by an engineer.
