Heritage Scan-to-BIM: UNESCO Town Hall Modeling
Hades partnered with The Heyon to deliver architectural BIM modeling for Town Hall, a 2,000 sq.m. UNESCO World Heritage landmark located in Estonia.
The Challenge:
The centuries-old heritage building required complete restoration and modern adaptive reuse. Structurally, the asset featured highly irregular, deformed masonry, intricate historic vaults, timber trusses, and non-standard geometric forms with zero plumb lines or standard orthogonal angles. The challenge was to transform reality-capture data into a clean, geometrically precise BIM model without oversimplifying historic features or compromising architectural fidelity.
Our Solution:
• Converted high-density 3D laser scan point clouds into a parametric Autodesk Revit model capturing complex vaulting, gothic arches, and centuries-old timber structures.
• Built custom non-standard parametric families and adaptive components to represent irregular structural deformations accurately.
• Structured asset parameters and historic data layers directly within the model to assist restoration architects, structural engineers, and heritage preservation authorities.
Results & Impact:
• Delivered a millimetric-accurate digital twin preserving historical authenticity.
• Provided the client with a verified basis of design for modernization, enabling seamless coordination between preservation specialists and contemporary engineering contractors
