Heat Sink Airflow | SOLIDWORKS Thermal Study
Evaluated an aluminium heat sink in SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation at 5 W heat input and 25 C ambient. Predicted peak solid temperatures were 124.1 C for a flat base in still air, 79.2 C with five fins in still air and 44.7 C with five fins and 2 m/s airflow. The comparison shows the effect of fin area and airflow on thermal performance. Deliverables include CAD geometry, thermal and airflow models, native temperature contours, air-temperature visualizations and the technical report. These are separate steady-state configuration cases using an ideal heater and perfect contact; reported solid peaks include the heater. Mesh/domain independence, heat balance and physical correlation form separate validation stages.
Technical report attached.
