Granite headstone: 3D model built from a 2D drawing
A stone workshop needed GLB models of its headstones for an online catalogue, built from simple outline drawings. This is my test model for that job.
How it was made:
- the outline, the stepped bands and the rounded edges were taken straight from the front-view drawing;
- the drawing had no dimensions, so the width was set to 1000 mm and the height (726 mm) follows the drawing's proportions; slab thickness 160 mm, steps 22 mm with a rounded profile;
- polished granite texture matched to the client's sample stone;
- real size in metres, front face forward, origin at the bottom centre;
- GLB file of 3.4 MB that opens in a web browser (three.js, model-viewer), so the model can be rotated on the site.
For a series of models I follow the same order: drawing, model, check in a web viewer, final GLB.
