Filament Dryer Control Panel
This project involved the design and integration of a custom control panel for a filament drying system, combining off-the-shelf components with purpose-built 3D printed parts. The goal was to create a safe, ergonomic, and serviceable interface for system monitoring and control.
Key Features:
Panel Face – Designed in SolidWorks, this front plate holds displays, and switches in a clean, organized layout.
LED Power Supply Riser with Integrated Hold Downs – Mounted behind the panel, this 3D printed part elevates and secures the power supply while locking it in place, reducing wiring strain.
Corner Guard for 110V Components – Adds a layer of safety by shielding high-voltage elements, protecting both the user and wiring.
Tilt Hangers – Simple, durable hangers that tile the panel upward for easier access while also suspending the unit securely from the cart.
Process:
Designed all custom parts in SolidWorks, with emphasis on fit, durability, and printability.
Printed parts using FDM technology with orientation chosen for strength in load-bearing areas.
Validated fit and function through iterative prototyping and final assembly.
Delivered a solution that balances safety, usability, and ease of maintenance.
Outcome:
The finished control panel integrates seamlessly with the filament drying system, providing clear operator access to controls and displays while ensuring electrical safety. The mix of CAD design and 3D printing allowed for fast iteration, cost savings, and a professional final appearance.
