Development of a Micro Hydraulic Pump for a Hand Prosthesis

I developed a compact hydraulic micro pump for use in an advanced, electrically controlled hand prosthesis. The pump was designed to generate the hydraulic pressure required to operate the fingers while fitting within the limited space available inside the prosthetic hand. The development process included concept design, CAD modelling, precision component design, material selection, prototyping, assembly and performance testing. Particular attention was given to minimizing internal leakage, reducing size and weight, improving efficiency and ensuring reliable operation with low-viscosity hydraulic oil. The final design was integrated into the prosthetic hand’s hydraulic system, providing controlled finger movement, strong gripping force and a compact alternative to conventional electric actuator systems.
