Compact Superfinishing Machine for Lathe Integration

Designed from scratch a compact superfinishing machine for mounting on mechanical lathe tool turrets, replacing conventional 50–70 kg units with a portable 16 kg solution. The 535 × 255 × 200 mm machine was developed for finishing localized sections of cylindrical components requiring extremely low surface roughness. The design combines a welded and machined aluminum structure, stepper and servo drives, PLC/HMI control, linear motion systems and integrated pneumatics for abrasive tensioning and floating contact. My scope included complete SolidWorks mechanical design, mechanism development, component integration, machined parts, sheet-metal guards, assemblies and manufacturing drawings. The machine was manufactured and tested, achieving surface finishes down to Ra 0.027 µm. Project materials shown in this portfolio are shared with authorization from the project owner.
