Challenge: Eliminate rework caused by tolerance mismatch between
machined parts and inspection fixtures — improve CMM measurement
repeatability for high-precision aluminum components.
What I did:
- DFMEA analysis: identified 8 failure modes, resolved 6 pre-prototype
- Hardened locating pins with H7/p6 interference fit — ±0.02mm repeatability
- Toggle clamp assembly design — consistent clamping force, zero part lift-off
- Worst-case tolerance stack-up for fixture-to-part interface
- Gage R&R validation across 30 measurement cycles with QC team
Result: 25% reduction in rework rate · DFMEA risk score 168 → 48 RPN ·
