BMW Wiring Harness Loading and Unloading Fixture – Flex Suzhou

As the project lead, I was responsible for the mechanical design and structural optimization of a custom loading and unloading fixture for an automotive wiring harness assembly process. The fixture used a multi-cylinder driven structure to remove molded parts and place inserts. I worked with the electrical engineer to confirm sensor placement, gripping feedback, and motion logic. Sensors on the gripper cylinders provided open/close and gripping status feedback to ensure stable part handling. The design focused on reliable positioning, stable gripping, manufacturability, and smooth integration with the production line. The cycle time from part removal to insert placement was approximately 8 seconds, meeting the automation requirements of the production process.
