AromaTech Fragrance Device: Industrial and Mechanical Design

A fragrance device designed to be bought for the object as well as the oil. An object worth leaving out on display. Client · AromaTech Sector · Home & personal fragrance Services · Industrial design, mechanical engineering Engagement · Ongoing development partnership The challenge Scent is a category built to sell what runs out. The refill is the business, and the device that holds it has too often been treated as a giveaway, a plastic housing designed down to a price and indistinguishable from the shelf beside it. That logic breaks the moment a brand wants to be bought for the object as well as the oil. The approach We treated the device as a considered object first. Industrial design set the proportions, surfaces and details so it sits comfortably in a room, while mechanical engineering resolved the parts that are hard to get right: the scent delivery path, the sealing that keeps fragrance where it belongs, and a housing that assembles cleanly. The outcome The result is a fragrance device that reads as a designed object rather than a dispenser, with the engineering built in rather than bolted on. Form and function were developed together, so the details that make it work are the same details that make it look considered. Our role Enki led the industrial design and mechanical engineering of the AromaTech fragrance device, from concept sketches and form development through to detailed mechanical design of the housing, the scent delivery path and the sealing. “A scent device should earn its place in the room. If people want to leave it out, the design has done its job.” Ben Jones, Founder, Enki Product Development
