Algæscape: A Living Exhibition of the Future

A project by SArch (Sarvaiya Architects) in collaboration with a US-based client, Algæscape envisions algae as a key biotechnological agent for future cities. This speculative bio-architecture installation imagines a self-sustaining campus where algae is cultivated for energy, food, and environmental remediation. The design features modular pods for algae farming, parametrically arranged beneath a tensile canopy that responds to environmental conditions like sunlight and wind. The structure mimics algal growth patterns, using computational design and digital fabrication to create a living, adaptive architecture. Inspired by the intelligence of natural systems, the campus merges biophilic design with cutting-edge sustainability. Executed by SArch with Rhino + Grasshopper workflows, the project demonstrates how architecture can become a living system—growing, evolving, and educating. Algæscape is not just a vision of future habitats; it’s a manifesto for regenerative, ecologically integrated urban design.
