Aerodynamic & Propeller Wake Analysis in OpenVSP of a Twin-Boom UAV
This project showcases the conceptual aerodynamic design and analysis of a twin-boom pusher configuration UAV modeled in OpenVSP and analyzed using VSP AERO. Evaluated at steady cruise conditions, the simulation couples a parametric pusher propeller model with the airframe to capture real-time slipstream dynamics, surface pressure distributions, and wake propagation. The resulting streamline visualizations highlight how the swirl and downwash generated by the propeller wash interact directly with the wing's trailing edge and the downstream twin-tail empennage, providing critical insights into pitch trim, dynamic pressure variations, and control-surface effectiveness.
Streamline and wake tracking illustrate the interaction between the propeller wash and the downstream empennage, showing how the slipstream directly impacts tailplane dynamic pressure, trim, and stability.
