3D PRINTABLE CAR CUP HOLDER

A client in the US needed a custom cup holder to replace the ashtray in their car. The part needed to fit precisely into an existing ashtray cavity, support the load of filled drink cups, and survive the UV and thermal environment inside a car interior. ASA was selected over PLA and PETG for its UV resistance and higher heat deflection temperature. Car interiors can reach 70 to 80 degrees Celsius on a hot day, conditions that would cause PLA to warp and compromise fit over time. I designed the part in CAD based on reference images and dimensions provided and ran four iterations of test prints to dial in the exact fit and functionality. The f inal product seated perfectly in the car. The client went on to sell the design on Etsy, which means the part was refined enough to be sold as a commercial product.
