My Outlook: Every product design project starts out as puzzle made up of semi-opaque pieces. The pieces… market analysis, competitive analysis, price points, innovation, differentiation, aesthetics, concinnity, function, ergonomics, materials, manufacturing processes, packaging, costs, users, and clients. These and other considerations assemble into a design language that makes your product unique, pertinent, and targeted in the marketplace… a tangible object of desire and promise... a picture that makes sense. Every product wants to be something… to be desired and realize its potential, in many ways and from many perspectives. I strive to stimulate desires and extract potential… solve the puzzle. My clients' success ensures my own and realizing that desire and potential benefits us both. My Experience: I use my degree in industrial design as a product designer covering a wide variety of products. I have 15+ years of 3D modeling and product development experience. I have the resources to do it all... from concept to point of purchase and everything in-between. My Feedback, received and given: “Steve did great work helping us detail our product for manufacturing. He took the time to really understand the project and its intricacies instead of diving head first and by the end of this job, had an intimate understanding of all the details. He is talented and was willing to research new methods to help meet our stringent product constraints. We went through several discussions and he was excellent at being responsive and keeping things on track. He produced high quality solidworks assemblies and files. Overall he went above and beyond what was expected of him. Highly recommended contractor, A+++” —robocular “Antoine is an outstanding client to work with. He''s quite knowledgeable and organized with clearly established goals coupled with exceptional communication skills. This project had some challenging constraints outside typical manufacturing and product design and development norms, but we worked through these challenges while staying within the target budget for the product. This project was more than I had bargained for, but I relished the challenge and Antoine appreciated the effort I put into it, which made this job particularly satisfying. I hope to work with Robocular again in the future.” —Io-Design “Working with Steve was a pleasure, not only do I think he’s an all-around good guy, but his approach to our project was great. He was able to take our idea and bring all his experience in making it better. Our initial idea was transformed into a product that ended up being cheaper to produce and nicer, while being more practical. We were able to overcome the hurdle we encounter and find solution that made it work! Also, he often came back with a different idea of doing things that were very practical. I Highly recommend him. ” — yvesl “yvesi came to me with the need for a design for a grain dispenser for feeding livestock. As is often the case, he showed me a design from another designer he had hired that didn't meet the product requirements. This design was too large and could not be sold at a profit due to inappropriate and impractical manufacturing processes. Through close collaboration, we came up with a design that is half the size, more aesthetically pleasing and user friendly, and is simple to assemble and install. Also, it will be sold at a projected price point that is 10% lower than the competition at a projected 90% profit margin while enjoying relatively low capital expenditures. It was a pleasure working with yvesi on this project and I'm looking forward to working with him again in the future.” —Io-Design “Io-Design was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. He provided designs that were exactly what we were looking for and he took into account the manufacturing. I would recommend him to anyone. ” — BlakeGaiser “As mentioned in the job description, Blake works for a company that represents the ultimate, uncompromising audio experience – revolutionary sound; unrivaled comfort and fit; with superior, innovative design in the earphone market. While they are well known among audiophiles and professionals who rely on uncompromising audio, they are less so in the consumer market. This project was part of an effort to update their earphones look, feel, and user experience to the level of their best in class earphone technology... the challenge being that their existing monitors/earbuds were to remain unchanged. Through close collaboration, we came up with a design that practices concinnity with the existing monitors, introduces innovative solutions, targets the consumer market, and enhances brand recognition. Superior design was the point of this project and together we have achieved that goal. Blake is a pleasure to work with and I'm looking forward to the next project.” —Io-Design

A playful, sensitive, caring human who has practiced and loved designing products since I was a child. Raised with regular access to a wood shop from age five by a wonderfully patient father I built cabinets and furniture in my early teens and worked into the construction trades until my early 20's when I tired of my options and started night school at my local JC. I eventually earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly, SLO, and worked for 12 years in the design and manufacture of a range of products in the industrial, recreation and medical device sectors. During that time I learned the subtleties of many primary manufacturing processes including machining and metal fabrication, extrusion design, some metal casting, CNC sheet metal production, metal hydro-forming and high-pressure thermal forming of plastics along with applicable coatings and finishing technologies for the same. I was also schooled in the development, application, and auditing of quality systems under ISO and FDA guidelines and the associated supply chain establishment and maintenance needed for the manufacture of products to exacting standards. Thinking I needed a change from the corporate world I began consulting on designs for small solar and wind installations and studied the emerging materials science applications of Geopolymers for infrastructure applications. I developed conceptual designs for automated equipment to refurbish small bridges based on the results of various Geopolymer studies but was unable to elicit support for its development. I explored ways of improving commercial greenhouse production while lowering the energy expenditures and later for lowering the cost and improving the efficiency of GSHP, (Ground Source Heat Pump), technologies but was equally unsuccessful at finding support for my proposed solutions. In recent years I have returned to consulting on product development for others and still look forward to helping develop new and refine existing technologies to address the considerable challenges facing our world. In general, I would characterize myself as a mostly talented mechanical/manufacturing engineer and product designer who is skilled at the synthesis of elegant solutions through the application of wide-ranging technologies.

What is Oat Foundry? With degrees in engineering and faced with the well-tread path to conventional jobs, we endeavored to do something different. This group of tinkerers, beer brewers, machinists, and bakers came together to work toward a common passion: bearing witness to our world evolving -- not around us, but through us. To that point, we formed a company to create products that are honest and elegant. We resolve that “can’t be done” is not in our lexicon because too many good ideas simply have yet to be done. Interested in the potential of rapid prototyping? We can model and 3D print with astonishingly short lead times. Have you been told your dream can’t be made? Us too. We understand that design is iterative and involves learning, exploring, and playing. Above all else, though, it requires listening to the product, the process, and the solution. Because only hearing the softest detail can drive the questions we’re answering. We are driven. We are listening. We are Oat Foundry.

Hi there. Welcome to John O.T. 3D . You can check out my pro work here http://johnot.viewbook.com/album/johnot-3dmodel . I am a professional 3D Technical & Product designer of over 4 years with over 100 successful clients. I have experience with elite universities, Fortune 500 companies, and visionary entrepreneurs. I am avid lover of 3D with specialization in Data to Prototype 3D design, Product design, Toy design, Consumer Product Design, and Industrial Design. I have extensive experience in the field and work with visionary minded entrepreneurs, startups, universities, and large scale business operations. For further introduction please review a sample walkthrough of my 3D services. I look forward to working with you! STAGES - A project of this nature will have a few steps. If we work together on each step I can design & produce the product(s) you desire with the correct specifications. 1. PrePro- To exact firm measurements, it is first smart for us to isolate the correct production methods and optimization requirements for the final product(s). Material selection, thickness requirements, Bounding Boxes, and Volume are all necessary ingredients in this process. I can, in this preliminary phase, supply useful and applicable knowledge. This will pre-tell the printing cost and allow us to pick the best material and 3d printing house. 2. 3D Modeling- I will be able to design the various model(s) you've suggested. I use a combination of BLENDER, RHINO, MESHLAB, and NETFABB to create, edit, and check models. Each model at this stage will have been checked for printing capability. Questions about aesthetic, structure, and dynamic usually arrive during this stage. At the conclusion of this phase specifications and look are nailed down and readied for 3d printing. 3. 3D Print Formatting - During this last stage model(s) are checked for errors, (thin walls, holes, bad normals, floating pieces, etc.) I send all model(s) through a verified test printability test to ensure 100% printability. Models are thickened, sized and cleaned and given the green light at the end of this stage. 4. Let's Chat! Please view the attached. I have prepared a detailed guide that addresses many topics such as rates, deadlines, and correspondence expectations. This doc will outline how we may best work together on the project. I can happily forward you this term sheet as I see interest to move forward.

I have made the most of every opportunity to study under expert craftsmen, inventors, product designers, doctors, and engineers to hone his ability to bring increasingly more complex new products to reality. This includes working with some of the foremost physicians tackling difficult challenges in current and next generation LVADs, artificial hearts, blood pumps, and other highly complex class III medical devices. Products I have designed and built are in Times Square, the Disney Parks, the Smithsonian, and implanted in people around the world. To date, I am named as inventor on a half dozen granted and pending patents, including core technologies in products for companies such as Baxa (now Baxter), Thoratec (now Abbott), and Covidien (now Abbott). I started my engineering training with a B.S. Engineering Degree, with a Mechanical Specialty from the Colorado School of Mines. I ontinue my education by working with many Industry & Trade Associations, University Programs, Business Groups and start-up Incubators. I also regularly attend major conferences, training programs, and other industry events in design and related fields including simulation & medical conferences specific to class III active implantable devices and blood pumps. My passion is to improve the world by blending user-focused design, tenacity, and old-world craftsmanship with an intimate understanding of the latest technologies. I exist at the intersection of the digital revolution, old world craftsmanship, and user-focused design. Which is why I always ask - what can I make for you? "… I am, and ever will be, a white-socks, pocket-protector, nerdy engineer — born under the second law of thermodynamics, steeped in the steam tables, in love with free-body diagrams, transformed by Laplace, and propelled by compressible flow. As an engineer, I take a substantial amount of pride in the accomplishments of my profession." - Neil Armstrong

Hi, I'm Andrew. If you can think it, I can make it! I’ve been actively feeding my hunger for mechanical innovation for the last 5+ years and am very excited to branch into the world of freelancing. I’ve leveraged many products all the way from concept to production and implementation. Whether you’re starting fresh with a developing idea, need to modify current designs, or generate some clean cut GD&T drawings, I’m your guy! When we work together, fulfilling your needs is the only priority that matters. I will communicate with you as much as we decide necessary, and I will never be afraid to reach out to you if I believe extra input is needed from you. A common trope among engineering type minds is shy away from conversation and complete the project strictly the way we believe it should be done. I firmly dissociate myself from this trope, any work I do is worthless if it does not suit your needs. The customer is always number 1! All of my engineering design work has occurred in small companies and my own personal ventures. I have completed contract work for 2 different companies (1 of which I still work for). For both of these companies, I designed machinery, generated drawings, created BOM’s, communicated with suppliers, communicated with manufacturers, and oversaw complete production of the machines I personally designed, or designed with a team. I’ve personally written and filed 4 Non-Provisional Patents & 3 Provisional Patents with the USPTO. Two of these pending patents I am currently working to build profitable businesses around. I have a fundamental understanding of the factors that go into turning a product into a business including marketing, competition, scalability, cost reduction, manufacturability, visual appearance/packaging, etc. Good product design is essential, but it is key to consider how that design affects all other aspects of the business in order to implement the best plan possible. As an added benefit to my engineering and creative skills, I am skilled in conveying complex thoughts into clear writing if you should have any need for documentation / reports / proposals for any of your business needs. Let’s talk and see if we can make a good fit together!

I began my career as a journeyman machinist working for the most successful and highly respected job shop in my area. From manual milling and turning through CNC programming and successful machine shop management I gained a solid foundation in manufacturing methods and best practices. I began my engineering career specializing in fixturing and tooling supporting foundrys and machine shops. And began what would come to dominate my experience as a machine and product designer. Leveraging my strong manufacturing background I went to work for a semiconductor tooling manufacturer. Over a 15 year period I designed our companies entire product line that included best in class etching performance, most efficient exhaust usage through CFD modeling and many unique solutions to some of the industries most difficult problems. I moved into automated machine design dominating most of my time and had the opportunity to work with some of the best and brightest engineers in the industry. I believe my wide range of skills and experience combined with a natural ability has made me into a leading designer with an outside the box approach to difficult problems and ability to produce parts that cost less to manufacture and work the first time. Exceeding expectations and delivering on time.
