Coffee GrinderBlind

Contest Ended, The buyer is selecting the winner(s).
Our company is developing a new high-end coffee grinder and seeking design ideas.

This coffee grinder will be a bit unusual - it is meant for making single cups of coffee or espresso at a time, and turns at a slower RPM than usual. This results in less static causing coffee grind retention in the grinder, as well as less heat build up which may affect coffee flavor.

Please use one of the motor designs here:
Without terminal box (raw lead wires):
With terminal box:

The grinder needs to be angeled 30-45* with the coffee entry at the top, and motor mounted upwards from the bottom. The motor mounts to the face of the grinder which connects to the rotating grinding burr inside of the grinder body. The top of the grinder has mount holes for the top grinding burr which does not rotate, and is used to adjust the space between the burrs by screwing the top in or out. This adjusts coffee grind size.
There should be a small coffee chute coming out of the body where the coffee would fall onto the 45* plane beside the bottom burr and out of the chute.

Reference products (All use common angled, single coffee dose design):

There are 3 main parts to the design:
Top screw on body part / adjustment ring / where coffee is poured in
Main body that the top screws into and motor mounts again bottom of. Coffee exists this main body through chute.
Legs / stand for the grinder (plus power cable, on/off button)
We are looking firstly just for design look&feel concept idea. We do not expect you to spend time making every internal part. Our goal is to find an outside body design for our product.

Raw machine materials, or satin/anno sample colors are fine. Focus is on body geometry.

A drawing would be fine even if detailed so long as it communicates the external design idea.
Don't Wants:
Open to all design ideas, but designs lighter on excess body material would be good as this will reduce production costs as it relates to machining. Partially why we would prefer to go with the exposed motor mounts to outside of body look if do-able.

It is not finished. There are some things to add. The cap for the funnel, on off button and some minor fastening adjusments. I just run out of time, as always :))).
Feedback is welcome

#14 Minimalist Model by CBee18
Hi there, this is my alternative take on the brief.
The dose of beans enter through the red funnel, which itself rotates to serve as an adjuster for the perfect grind!
Again, please feel free to ask questions.

#3 Coffee Supreme by Sextant Technical
This is a functional model of the coffee bean grinder. The design is very manufacturing friendly, any machinist can make the metal parts. The design is with the end user in mind, it can be disassembled and cleaned with one Allen wrench and does not need mechanical understanding more than what is needed for any other counter top appliance. Adjustment is from .02mm (closed) to 1mm (open) in increments of 22.5 degrees on a 1mm pitch screw. Any questions, please feel free to contact me. Cheers.

Could you please specify which motor particularly is to be used as there is no downloadable STP file and Length L1 varies. Out of these 3 which L1 should be considered?

The diameter of the burr screws are 4mm. I have found this out the hard way in real life :)

UPDATE - We have determined our grinder will be built using a stepper motor (located and will want to cover the motor with a body part.
Also the grinder can be vertical 90*. In our testing, there is not a requirement for it to be angled as we originally thought!

Is the diameter of the brurr screw 6 mm ?
what is the diameter of the brurr screw head ?

Thu, 20 Sep 2018 00:30:09 +0000
Currently no. There are only a few main parts to be created and all are machined as all except for the stand and grind exit chute must be to good tolerance. Please see as a realistic example using a different motor as a reference project if it helps.

Are there any injection molded parts on this or is it all machined?

Wed, 19 Sep 2018 22:32:30 +0000
Single dosing, so around 20g / roughly 2oz worth of beans poured in on average at a time.
Wed, 19 Sep 2018 22:24:24 +0000
Can you comment on the amount of bean dosing you want? Single cup or full bag of beans?

Sextant: We plan to use 64mm flat burrs in this grinder, like seen here: Typically these are 64mm OD, 38mm ID hole, 3x 6mm thru mount screw holes 49mm in diameter. They are 8.5mm in height on the outer edge, and 4.5mm inner edge where they angle downwards.

Vikas: The body needs to be at least 72mm tall
40 (length of shaft sticking into body)
+ 5 (thickness of burr mounting place which bottom burr screws onto and slides onto motor shaft)
+ 8.5( bottom burr mounted to burr carrier)
+ 8.5( top burr mounted to top of grinder)
+ 10 (1cm worth of 1-2mm pitch threads where top body+top burr screw in)

The top part threads into the bottom body section, and when screwed all the way in 1cm the burrs will be touching with a distance of 0 between them. The top is unscrewed slightly to put distance between the burrs which adjusts coffee grind size.

The grinder is powered by the 200w electric motors linked to in the contest description.

Anything unclear please let me know.

Mompreneur needs 3D Drawings to rid the world of boring highchairs!
Our mission is to rid the world of boring highchairs & messy cleanups, one meal at a time! I need 3D drawings of two different styles of placemats that will custom fit the world’s most popular high chair – the IKEA Antilop high chair. They’ll be made from silicone FDA approved food-grade silicone. The drawings will assist with create product moulds in China. See attached file for dimensions - although I'd prefer to work with someone who has this exact high chair in their home (as it's difficult to communicate dimensions of edges and corners). Would also like to letterpress logo into design (see attached for example).
3D Printer Design
We are an early stage 3D printing startup looking for a concept to use in our pitch deck. There will likely be continued work opportunities with the winner. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Style: Sleek and minimalistic. No screen, just a power button. You can go for an ultra-modern design (apple) or a retro-futuristic 50's design (Jetson's TV show). Use the color scheme in the attached company logo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dimensions: **Print area must be 300mm wide by 200mm deep by 200 mm tall. **There needs to be an extra .02 cubic meters of room for electronics and other components either beneath the print area or behind it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other: **The front, right, and left sides should be all or mostly gray acrylic glass. Everything else should be solid. (leave the top 70mm solid to hide the extruder and motors) **Modeling motors and extruder is not necessary! **The print bed must move up and down so it needs one screw and two guiding rods behind it. (see attached picture) **Include the company logo somewhere on the printer.
Kitchen Waste Rack
Purpose is to make this an injection molded plastic item. Looking to get some CAD designs that include the core structures, which are: (a) precise top loop [that holds a slightly stretched plastic garbage bag], loop cutout is preferred, but optional if necessary. Loop Circumference: 28.5 inches. Can be irregular shape.; (b) bottom holder to support bag contents and hold roll of bags with some dispensing assistance to keep roll in center; and (c) a vertical component to maintain the precise distance from top and bottom components. Height 15.25 Inches; (d) two side hooks that hold a shopping bag in lieu of fitted bag. - The top and bottom can have individual mounting via 3-4 mm screws. - The unit would be best as a 2-3 piece construction for smaller shipping /retail box. - item must support appx 15 lbs distributed through top ring and bottom support. - reference for info and watch installation video for product views. - My sketches of a potential design are attached: "Sketch_1" and "Sketch_2". This is provided as an example only. - current, actual retail product designs attached: 2 wire plans and 1 retail package artwork. Other current product images and drawings are attached. Note: our company is interested in selling garbage bags that fit the rack. This is the critical mission. The shopping bag hooks are a minor feature that we include for a minority of our users.
