So, I set up a contest and invited a group of engineers to compete against each other. The best engineer wins a specific amount of prize money, but I own the concept. It\u2019s as if the prize money is some sort of payment to buy the concept.<\/li>\n<\/ul> <p>The question is, where can I post the contest? Social media might be a good place to start, but what if I have no idea whether the participants are actual professionals or students still honing their skills? There\u2019s no jack of all trades here, either. Cad Crowd is built specifically to provide assistance for AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) companies and individual clients as they deal with challenges in their projects. While design contests are often most effective for relatively small projects like interior design, floor plan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cadcrowd.com\/3d-modeling-design\/3d-character-animation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">3D character animation services<\/a>, 3D printable designs, and animations, I\u2019ve seen competitions for basic designs in Cad Crowd with prizes <strong>up to $6,000<\/strong>. In general, contests range from a <strong>little over $300<\/strong> for a simple challenge to more than <strong>$50,000 for a highly complex one<\/strong>.<\/p> <p>Cad Crowd offers three different contest options, including public (visible to everyone), private (available for select designers), and invite-only (accessible for united professionals only). In fact, it has become famous precisely because of the crowdsourcing approach. Things have changed quite a big deal in the company in recent years, so that most of its clients today prefer the more discreet crowdsourcing, which sounds like an oxymoron, but the basic principle stands. While about half of all the design challenges and exploratory projects have never been made public, NineSigma boasts that nearly 80% of the respondents have at least a Master\u2019s degree. So, that\u2019s reassuring, I assume. The term \u201cproblem solvers\u201d is used in a very loose sense to encourage all individuals to participate in every challenge and make positive contributions. It\u2019s also a rather unique entry because the website doesn\u2019t actually post challenges, but it offers an Intellectual Property library for members. At least there are a few crowdsourcing elements there. The idea behind AutoHarvest is to reveal some old (and potentially obscure) patents to help companies and inventors transfer their IP to others in need.<\/p> <p>Think of it as a marketplace where buyers, patent holders, and companies can collaborate to solve engineering issues using existing technologies. It\u2019s worth mentioning that the website isn\u2019t the most visually appealing one; it seems that it hasn\u2019t received any updates in years, so the interface isn\u2019t exactly what you can describe as intuitive. GrabCAD can manage everything for you, from the contest launch date, duration, and even the judging schedule. Also, you\u2019re allowed to pick the jury, so it shouldn\u2019t be too difficult to ask a member of your engineering team or an expert from the community to take part. An internal team from yet2 claims to filter all submissions to make sure that you\u2019ll only have to deal with and communicate with worthy ideas.
